Sony is launching its new home media server in Japan with its latest multimedia server and NAS drives. The 1TB VGF-HS1 and 1.5TB VGF-HS1s both boast Gigabit Ethernet, DLNA compatibility and integrated display, USB connectivity and a nicely hidden multicard reader behind the front panel for extra sexiness. Both units are play nicely with a variety of formats, including (AVCHD, MPEG2, HDV, JPEG, BMP, PNG, WAV, MP3, ATRAC, AAC and WMA). The units hold a ¥60,000 ($570) / ¥80,000 ($760) price point but so far, no word on them coming over the States.

If a product like this properly marked and thats something that I feel Sony misses the cue on alot, it can really be a shinning become in the wide array of products that Sony offers as people’s digital lives continue to grow with more and more people turning to digital downloads (legal or not) and as more people download movies (again, legal or not) and as more people continue to only take digital pictures. What better way to bridge your computer room/bedroom to your living room, then a Media Server like this? I feel as though Sony releases to many fantastic products but because a lack of marketing, they just sit there, never to be heard of because of lack of proper presentation.
