Sony Moves DVD/Blu-ray Disc Plant

By the end of the December, Sony will be shutting down its DVD and Blu-ray Disc plant in Gödöllö, Hungary and transferring its operations to another plant in Malaysia. Sony said the move, which is part of ongoing efforts to consolidate global operations and achieve better operating efficiencies with the projected market expansion of 3D-compatible Blu-ray players, would have no material impact on its financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2011. The move makes sense overall in terms of efficiency. Mostly as the entire world continues to recover from the recession, many companies are turning inward to work on saving costs in order to hit the profit numbers they seek. This of course then turns into a good long term plan as the world economy picks up.
