Sony to release new PRS-350 and PRS-650 eReaders with 3G?

Although we reported about the potential of Sony mixing in Android software with their eReader units, we have to take into consideration that we won’t be seeing a product out of that marraige in the near future. In the meantime, Sony is rumored to be releasing two new eReaders: the PRS-350 and PRS-650. Both units will still be based on E Ink technology and will be replacing the older PRS-300 and PRS-600. What will be changing, though, is everything else. It’s rumored that Sony will be looking at keeping both of these units under 10mm thick while bumping up the PRS-650 from a 512MB built in drive to 2GB. The PRS-350 will still be WiFi based while the bigger unit will give you both WiFi and 3G capabilities. Furthermore, Sony is looking to make some minor tweaks to the UI but more importantly, the 350 will get the note-taking software that so far has only been in the 600 series. Although there is no word yet on the pricing, we hope that Sony really looks at the current market and does not bring out a highly priced unit.
