Meet the Sony NEX-FS700. We Have Specs and Pics

Not a few hours after our report on the Sony NEX-FS700 and its rumored specs with no pictures to be spoken of, we learn of the camera’s official specs with a few pictures to hold us over until NAB 2012 which will be held in Las Vegas at the end of April. So the big rumor of course was the camera’s ability to shoot in 4k resolution and I’m happy to report that those indeed were true. So what else can you expect? Find out after the jump.

Some official Sony NEX-FS700 specs include:

  • 4K Super35mm CMOS sensor
  • 3G SDI Out
  • Internal ND filters (clear, 1/4, 1/16 and 1/64)
  • Super Slow motion (120-240 fps Full HD or 480 up to 960 fps with reduced resolution)
  • 2xXLR
  • 108024p and 1080/50p AVCHD 2.0
  • MemoryStick or SDXC Cards or on external HXR-FMU128 recorder

I’m sure we’ll learn plenty more as we near NAB, like an official price, but our sources indicate that our original estimate of $8,000 isn’t far off. Those who were skeptical of Sony’s commitment to 4k should be satisfied as Sony also showed off a pair of 4K projectors at CES 2012. Now, if we can get a Crystal LCD with 4K resolution, I promise to never leave my house.

What say you? Are you ready for 4k recording?
