Is the PS4 Getting Speech Recognition?

The truth of it is, we don’t know a whole lot about the PlayStation 4, codenamed Orbis and even that could end not being the real internal codename. Despite some talk about how the PS4 might not play used games, there hasn’t been many new nuggets of information about the next generation console till now. According to a job posting by Sony Computer Entertainment America, the PlayStation makers are looking for members who will help “contribute to the voice recognition system and technologies for the PlayStation platforms.” With the PS3 well into its mid cycle, this leaves us only with the PS4.

The official job listing reads,

Sony Computer Entertainment America’s Research and Development department has a summer internship opportunity available. This intern will work within the Acoustic Analysis Group and the team is looking for motivated and enthusiastic students who will contribute to the voice recognition system and technologies for the PlayStation platforms.

Its long been known that despite the PS3 and Xbox 360 both offering 512MB RAM, due to design differences and utilization of that RAM, the PS3 has been incapable of offering cross game voice chat which even the PS Vita can due. Due to this, its easy to rule out the PS3 gaining some late ground breaking feature though the fact that the system has continued to offer new features every year like 3D Blu-ray, 3D Games, hosts of new apps like Vudu, Amazon Instant Video and PlayStation Move is something to marvel at.

With the PS3 out of the question, this leaves the PS Vita and PS4 and with the Vita being a released device, there is no reason for Sony to not officially hire for the handheld, instead of relying on the vague ‘PlayStation platform’ title.

Do you think this feature is coming the PS3, PS Vita, or PS4?
