Leaked: Next Generation Sony Xperia Tablet Z2, We Have Specs

With the Sony Xperia Tablet Z (pictured above) having been in the market for nearly a year, it was only a matter of time before we started to hear murmurs about a follow-up tablet. Now, new leaks point to what will likely be the next generation Sony Xperia Tablet Z2. Tablets, like smartphones at this point, have already matured, so don’t expect a shocking difference from one generation to the next. Still, it doesn’t mean that the Z2 won’t be a worthy upgrade with more RAM and a faster processor.

After the jump, let’s talk about the leaked Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 specs.

For the most part, if you know about the Xperia Tablet Z, then you already know about the Z2. Sticking to the mind set of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” Sony is likely to keep the same design for the Z2 which will feature a 10.1-inch (1920×1200) display and the same dust and water resistant design. While the resolution number might be the same as the current Z1, it’s believed that Sony’s Triluminos display technology will make its way into power tablet which will offer brighter and more vivid colors.

Speaking of power, Sony is opting for 3GB RAM to help feed the 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AB) with Adreno 330 graphics. Unless the leaks have it dramatically wrong, it’s expected that the Xperia Tablet Z2 will feature the same 8-megapixel front and 2-megapixel rear camera.

16GB of internal memory will accompany the base model with a microSD memory card support though nothing is holding Sony back from offering more memory if they so choose. The Xperia Tablet Z2, while more powerful, will also offer a thinner design of 6.4mm thickness, versus the 6.9mm for the outgoing Tablet Z. This will also lend itself to a lighter profile though the exact weights have yet to make it to our hands.

Android 4.4 KitKat will also be a native install though Sony isn’t leaving current Tablet Z owners out to dry and will make the latest Android build available for download to them in the future. With Sony’s next flagship Android smartphone, the Xperia Z2, expected to be revealed soon, we’ll likely get plenty more leaks and official information in the near future.

Update:

It’s now believed that the Xperia Tablet Z2 will weigh in at 426g for the Wi-Fi model and 439g for the Wi-Fi+LTE model. In comparison, the current Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi edition weighs 495g.
