Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is waiting for regulatory approval of this deal which would give it a firmer presence in the UK TV market. Currently it runs 9 channel feeds and 2 free-to-air channels capturing an audience of 20m viewers per month.

Andy Kaplan, president of worldwide networks for Sony Pictures Television continues:

These new channels perfectly complement our current offerings, allowing us to provide viewers with a variety of entertainment choices and advertisers with greater reach and cross-channel opportunities.

If given regulatory approval, SPT Networks will become the fifth largest cable/satellite group in the UK market by commercial ad views. Ads on SPT’s channels are currently sold by Sky. While actual Sony TV sales might be going through a rough patch, it seems Sony is trying to stay connected to our screens via the channels watched.
