Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Comes Exclusively to Verizon

Sony_Xperia_Z2_TabletSony teased us over and over again about working with Verizon and they’ve finally delivered. While it’s not the Xperia Z2 that many had been hoping for, Sony and Verizon have officially announced the partnership that will see the waterproof tablet make its official debut in the US with carrier support. News about the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet coming to Verizon began to circulate as early as May and most recently in early June. Now that the two companies have made it official, what does it mean for you? Let’s talk details.

Sony_MDR_NC31EMAccording to Verizon, the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet can be pre-ordered starting tomorrow and will ship roughly in a week’s time with an expected July 17th launch date. Retail price for the 16GB LTE model is set at $599 though for a limited time, you can snatch yourself a unit for $499 if you’re willing to sign a 2-year contract. Those who pre-order will also receive a free Sony MDR-NC31EM Digital Noise Cancelling Headset (pictured right).

Sony Mobile and our North America president Ravi Nookala:

From our Xperia Z2 Tablet and accessories, to exclusive Sony content and experiences, we’re pleased to be working with Verizon to bring a strong Sony proposition to their customers. This newly forged relationship with Verizon is an exciting proof point as we continue to build momentum in the U.S.

It remains to be seen if there will be any accompanying marketing plan behind this move or if Sony is simply releasing the tablet in hopes that Verizon retail outlets offer the device to would-be tablet buyers. Historically, Sony has worked with T-Mobile and AT&T as carrier partners. Will choosing Verizon as the exclusive carrier (likely timed) for the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet improve sales figures? See previous statement.
