Released in early 2013, the Sony Xperia E was always designed as an entry level smartphone. Powered by a Qualcomm 1 GHz Cortex-A5 processor with only 3G connectivity, 320 x 480 pixels display, and 3.1-megapixel camera meant the Xperia E also carried an appropriate price of ₹9,290 when released in India. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, Sony has released a new update, taking the Xperia E build from 11.3.A.2.23 to 11.3.A.2.33.

When the Xperia E was released, it launched with Android 4.1 and since that time, Sony has yet to bring any further iterations of Android to the budget phone. Unfortunately the Sony Xperia E update 11.3.A.2.33 does little to address this. Instead, Sony only mentions on their official site that the new build is available with no indication of what’s changed. This likely means that there were some minor bug fixes or security implementations that needed to take place.

Seeing how the phone will soon be two years old, I wouldn’t hold my breath that Sony brings any major software updates to the Xperia E.
