Sony Pictures has officially confirmed the release date for Uncharted, based on the best-selling and beloved PlayStation franchise. According to Sony, Uncharted will be released on June 10th, 2016 and will be directed by Seth Gordon (Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses) and is being written by David Guggenheim (Safe House). Charles Roven, Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad (Spider-Man franchise) will be producing under their Arad/Atlas Entertainment production company. With an unfinished screenplay, expect details to remain scarce till 2015 when production and filming will officially start on the highly-anticipated film.

The Uncharted film will follow its gaming history and feature Nathan Drake as the main hero. It remains unclear if the film franchise will be related to the video game timeline or if like most video game adaptations, have its own unique story. Previously Naughty Dog, the famous developers behind the franchise, had tried to help make the Uncharted film by turning to Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to pen the film but neither could come up with an original take.

With a prime summer release date, Sony Pictures is betting big that their video game adaptation will draw in more than hardcore gamers and that it can stand on its own as a movie worth watching.
