The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) is the largest editorial multimedia organization in Europe, and this year they 6 Sony products were top of the class in their categories to win outright.

Last year Sony won 5 ‘best’ awards, including for the best tablet of the year award. This year the Xperia Z2 Tablet collected the same award, proving in a young category of product innovation, tablets, that Sony has got all the ideas right.

So slim, so classy, so slick – the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet is undoubtedly an EISA winner.

Sony has given a secret to why their products succeed, read on to know what it is (and the other winners!) The 2014 list of Sony winning products at EISA:

The EISA awards were founded in 1989 and today see the chief editors of 50 publications from 20 European countries gather to determine the devices which have excelled in their respective categories in the past year.

Every year, the EISA Awards applaud the new products that combine the most advanced technology, the most desirable features, the ultimate expression of design, the most satisfying ergonomics and, of course, the greatest value for money.

No smartphone win? Nope. This may come as a surprise to some as Sony has pushed so hard in the past few years to beat other flagship smartphones. The camera and TV wins come as little surprise given that Sony doesn’t seem to ever show weakness in innovation in these areas. The TV division of Sony you may remember is now separated from the core of the company. Notable winners in other categories:

Best consumer smartphone – Huawei Ascend P7

Best advanced smartphone – LG G3

Best camera smartphone – Samsung Galaxy K Zoom

Best Smart TV – LG 55LB870V

Best High-end TV – LG 77EC980V

Best Blu-Ray player – Panasonic DMP-BDT700

Best Full HD TV – Samsung UE55H7000

In two categories Sony has won two years in a row: best tablet and best compact camera. Other winning Sony products are directly related to last years winners (best 4K Ultra TV vs best TV, best professional compact camera vs best advanced camera and best digital source vs HT receiver).

The Secret (not the book)

Do you want to know what philosophy drives Sony to create the products that it does? CEO Kaz Hirai mentioned this at the opening keynote of CES 2014.

But in an enterprise that makes things, we must first and foremost make that connection with people.  Our products’ value is measured by them.  And we find that it’s not just functional value that people desire, but the deeper and more elusive emotional value.  Emotional value. And in Japanese culture, we call this kando.  Kando translates to mean emotional involvement.  The power to simulate an emotional response.  The power to make people say, Wow.  All Sony products must be inspired by a spirit of kando.
