Sony Xperia Z3 Coming to T-Mobile in US? (updated)

During a post IFA keynote Q&A, Sony briefly mentioned that Xperia Z3 will come to the US this fall via T-Mobile. We’re looking into this and will update the post accordingly. Previously it was believed that the Xperia Z3 would come to the US exclusively on Sprint.

T-Mobile has confirmed that Sony’s Xperia Z3 will be coming to their lineup of phones this fall. More details after the jump.

Mentioned in nearly a throwaway line at Sony’s IFA keynote, T-Mobile has now confirmed that they will be carrying Sony’s flagship Xperia Z3. From T-Mobile:

 T-Mobile is lining up a killer hardware portfolio for fall with a selection that gives customers every opportunity to find the perfect device. That’s why today, T-Mobile announced that Sony’s Xperia Z3 will be joining the Un-carrier’s selection of high-end smartphones, available online and in participating T-Mobile stores, this fall.

As the successor to the popular Xperia Z1S, the ultra-light Xperia Z3 is waterproof, sports a top-of-the-line processor and has a 20.7MP rear facing camera (with Steadyshot™ technology) to snap some of the best photos possible with a smartphone. Plus, with a gorgeous 5.2-inch screen, it’s perfectly designed for streaming movies and watching your favorite internet videos on the fastest nationwide 4G LTE network. 

Specifically, T-Mobile will offer the Xperia Z3 in black in 32GB LTE model. Referred to as the D6616 variant, the Xperia Z3 on T-Mobile will support LTE bands 2, 4, 12. Neither side has confirmed a specific release date or price. Interestingly, no word yet from Sony or Sprint about a partnership that would see them carry the Xperia Z3, despite reports from last week that seemed to be hinged on Sony’s IFA keynote concluding before being officially announced. Hopefully Sony can also bring the Xperia Z3 to Sprint as well in order to increase the presence of their flagship smartphone.
