PlayStation TV Coming To North America In October, ‘Nearly 700’ Games Available At Launch

PlayStation TVThe wait is nearly over. The latest PlayStation console is finally coming to the United States, nearly a year after its launch in Japan. Yes, that’s right, PlayStation TV (previously the PS Vita TV in Japan) has a release date and will be launching in North America on October 14, and one month later to European territories on November 14.

PlayStation TV, for those unfamiliar, is a microconsole similar to Apple TV or the Roku streaming boxes. Packed inside are the components that make the PlayStation Vita go — hence the PS Vita TV name in Japan — and the ability to stream content from Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more directly to your HDTV. PlayStation TV will release as a standalone device for $99.99/£84.99/€99.99, or you can pick one up with a DualShock 3 controller, 8 GB memory card, and a copy of The LEGO Movie Videogame for $139.99. If you’d prefer something other than LEGOs, Walmart will be selling a bundle with everything included, plus Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, also for $139.99. In Europe, the standard version of PS TV comes bundled with a voucher for three Vita titles: Worms Revolution ExtremeVelocity Ultra, and OlliOlli.

If none of these games are quite up your alley, not to worry. PlayStation TV will be releasing with “nearly 700 games” available across the Vita, PSP digital, PS One classic, and PlayStation minis spectrum, including Killzone: MercenaryPersona 4 GoldenThe God of War CollectionBorderlands 2, and the brand-new Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom. Check out the EU PlayStation Blog for all of the titles that are compatible with PS TV so far.

Oh, and in case you didn’t hear, PS TV will also be able to play your PS4 games via Remote Play, just like the Vita. So if you’ve got a room in your house that doesn’t have a PS4 yet — and let’s be honest, why wouldn’t you at this point? — now you can have easy access to Destiny in any room, on the go, practically anywhere if you think about it. And that’s reason enough to pick up a PS TV, right? Let us know what you think of the PS TV in the comments, and look for hands-on with Sony’s latest console when it releases in just a few weeks.
