We’d previously reported on Sony’s ludicrous innovative ludicrous plan on creating an underwater store in Dubai. The ‘Xperia Aquatech’ store, according to Rüediger Odenbac, Vice President of Sony Mobile Middle East and Africa, will allow select customers and VIPs to

be able to stand on the seabed and breathe perfectly normally

while of course experiencing, playing, and hopefully purchasing Sony Mobile products. Sony has gone to great lengths to make their entire mobile flagship series (read Xperia Z) waterproof and they hope that the Xperia Aquatech store can show that. Now new details have emerged from the store that will be 4 meters below the surface. More details and another concept shot after the jump.

As you can see from the concept image above, the Sony underwater Xperia Aquatech store will offer a hyper futuristic design that mimics nature, in this case a jelly fish. Once guided down by trainer divers, shoppers will be able to be in the store with no mask and play with Sony smartphones, tablets, and accessories. The store will be able to house 6 people at any given time; two divers and four shoppers. The store will open its doors on December 3rd at The World Islands off the coast of Dubai. Spyros Gousetis, Director of Marketing, at Sony Mobile Middle East and Africa:

With the Xperia Aquatech Stores, we wanted to put Sony’s pioneering waterproof technology on its smart devices at the forefront in a manner that would deliver an unforgettable experience to guests and fans in a visually, and emotionally powerful way

While the price tag of this venture is unknown, here’s hoping to that the stunt pays off for Sony and helps drive the point home that their product range is waterproof. Otherwise, they could always resort to – you know – making television ads. Seems to be working for other companies just fine.

Do you find the idea neat and an interesting marketing stunt or completely absurd?
