Review: Free Your Phone with Bumpies

Last month at CES 2015, we perused the case section of the convention  – with rows and rows of phone case companies, we had access to a dizzying selection of cases for every phone on the market. Yet, with all the choices available, there was a singular company that stood out in form, function, and lifestyle: Bumpies. We met up with company founders Michael Chapp and Victor Chung to chat about the product, the company, and their dedication to the community surrounding them.

Bumpies_01Bumpies are not your typical phone case. Most phone cases protect your device by covering up the very thing that drew you to the phone in the first place – the design. If you have invested your hard-earned money in a beautiful phone that you’d love to show off, then why should you have to cover it up? Bumpies set out to solve this problem with minimal square footage. Covering just the four corners of your device, Bumpies give you the best bang for your buck – offering a unique and eye-catching design that doesn’t take away from the beauty of your phone despite its better-than-military grade shock absorption tech with ProDyn.

Join us after the jump to learn what makes this company and their product unique.

As you can tell, Bumpies is plural for a reason. The four little “chicklets” are offered in several colors, allowing for a fun punch of color (yellow, in my case), or keeping it on the down low in a more neutral tone (Sohrab, our founder, went with a cool gray that blended nicely with his iPhone 6). Amongst the options currently available, you even have the ability to customize your corners! Want a different color on each corner? Want to show off your favorite team’s colors? Bumpies has you covered. Minimalistic doesn’t have to mean boring! To make your combo happen, you can purchase Bumpies in four-packs or one by one.

Before you flip, don’t worry. The guys at Bumpies have taken every precaution and measurement in order to make sure that no part of your phone is touching the surface you just placed it down on. That includes your camera. Did you recently get a new iPhone 6 Plus? Your Bumpies will keep that camera off the counter. Have you been rocking a Samsung Galaxy S5? Don’t worry about scratching that lens. In fact, one of the coolest things Chapp and Chung showed us was sliding a business card under their Bumpie-d phones: it felt like a magic trick! No drag. We could tell we’d found a new hobby.

Another part of the ingenious design of Bumpies might surprise you – the packaging. In a world where packaging is designed to get the product onto store shelves, Bumpies has taken a unique approach that varies based on the phone you’re purchasing for. You heard right: the size of the packaging is the size of your phone – just slip your device inside and use the guides to install your Bumpies perfectly every time. Even better, Bumpies takes it to the next level with their dedication to the environment and their community. Not only is the packaging made with recycled paper and soy-based ink, but the machines creating it are powered with wind! But it’s not only the machines that are impressive. Bumpies offers employment opportunities to adults with disabilities, and have supported many events such as the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in San Diego. They’re looking for more philanthropic ideas all the time – so if you have one, tell them about it on their website!

So why are we reviewing a product that seemingly has no ties to Sony? The Sony Xperia line offers an array of beautiful phones. Wouldn’t you love to be able to show off your Z3 with the form and function of the coolest minimalist case on the market? Take a minute and let them know – they’re always looking for new phones to uncover!
