On the heels of revealing the Xperia E4, Sony has added a second model to the lineup: the Xperia E4g. As the name would suggest, the Sony Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g share similar core features though there are major differences like screen size between the two models that expend beyond the addition of more wireless connectivity options. As a reminder, the Xperia E4 series is a budget-friendly Android smartphone with a £99 (€135 or $154) price tag.

So what can we expect from the Sony Xperia E4g? Details after the jump.

The g added to the end of the Xperia E4 name is not only meant as a differentiator between models but is also representative of an actual feature. That is to say that the Sony Xperia E4g will feature 4G LTE, while the Xperia E4 only offers 3G connectivity. Despite the addition of 4G LTE connectivity, the Xperia E4g will actually offer a smaller 4.7-inch qHD display versus the 5-inch qHD display on the Xperia E4. Due to the extra chips required for 4G LTE, the Xperia E4g will however be slightly thicker than the Xperia E4 at 10.8mm thick versus the Xperia E4 which measures at 10.5mm.

Tony McNulty, Vice President, Value Category Business Management at Sony Mobile Communications:

Xperia E4 set out to bring many of the premium features people expect of Sony to lower-tier devices; Xperia E4g brings that same quality and ease of use – but with super-fast 4G LTE connectivity. With simple set-up and unrivalled 2 day battery life, we believe both models represent value for those who want premium Sony technology and experiences often only associated with high-end devices.

Other noteworthy changes include a faster processor, which clocks in at 1.5GHz quad-core versus 1.3GHz on the Xperia E4. Sony is also baking in NFC for easy connectivity to other devices like headphones and sound systems. Despite its budget ranking, the Xperia E4g will still provide a 2-day battery life. Set to launch in April, the Sony Xperia E4g will be available in black and white for €129.
