PS4 Sells (Not Shipped) 20.2 Million Units

PS4_20th_AnnivesaryThe PlayStation Nation continues to grow with momentum, not slowing down for the PS4. Sony has just announced that they’ve sold 20.2 million PS4 units since launch. It’s noteworthy that, since PS4 launched, that Sony is reporting units sold and not shipped. The difference is that Sony could very well have shipped 25 million units to retailers around the world. That sold number isn’t units sold to retail partners but units that have been bought by consumers.

What’s more impressive is that Sony has been posting these numbers despite have a killer system exclusive since launch. Even then, we’ve only seen a handful of games like inFamous: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, DriveClub, and The Order: 1886. While DriveClub has turned out to be a phenomenal racer, the game launched with huge network problems which took nearly two months to work out.

With news widespread about the games problems, it’s unlikely that it’s been able to be a system seller for Sony. The Order: 1886 (which you can read our take on here) has also been released to mixed results and as a result might not be the system seller Sony was hoping for. All of this means that, when some killer games do land on the PS4 like the exclusive Uncharted 4 or Final Fantasy 15, expect the PS4 train to chug even faster.
