Remember how Sony did that weird thing where they announced the Xperia Z4 but it was exclusive to Japan? Well now Sony is planning to bring their latest flagship smartphone globally and under a new name. Officially called the Sony Xperia Z3+, the phone is every inch the Xperia Z4 that’s being released in Japan but just under a new name. While to the untrained eye, the Xperia Z3+ (E6553) will appear nearly identical to the Z3, it will most certainly feel different, thanks to a slimmer (6.9mm vs 7.3mm) and lighter (144g vs 152g) profile. But cosmetics aren’t the only difference between the outgoing model and the new one.

More details after the jump.

As a quick recap, some specs for the Sony Xperia Z3+ include

  • 5.2-inch 1080p display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit chipset
  • 3GB RAM
  • 20.7-Megapixel Exmor RS rear camera
  • 5.1-Megapixel Exmor R front-facing camera with 25mm wide-angle lens
  • Hi-Res Audio
  • Android 5 Lollipop

Another interesting difference between the Xperia Z3+ and its predecessor is the smaller battery (2930mAh vs 3100mAh). Still, according to Sony, the Xperia Z3+ will provide the same two-day battery life. IP65/IP68 certification for dust- and water-resistance is also back with one less flap to worry about. That’s because, like the Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua, the Xperia Z3+ features a capless USB port that’s still capable of withstanding dust and water.

The Sony Xperia Z3+ will launch in Black, White, Copper and Aqua Green when it arrives globally in June. No specifics were given about territories and carriers.
