Xur Has Gjallarhorn (and How to Get Enough Strange Coins)

Destiny_Gjallarhorn_Render

Stop what you’re doing -even if it’s open heart surgery! – as Xur has once again stocked up on the infamous Gjallarhorn. That’s right, for the price of just 17 Strange Coins, you and your loved ones can experience all that is almost awesome (will be fully awesome once you have Wolf Pack rounds). For the unacquainted, the Gjallarhorn is the strongest weapon in Destiny and a rare one to find. Even more rare is Xur selling one. At last count, I believe only one other time has Xur, the black arms dealer who appears over the weekend and disappears before midnight on Sundays offered this exotic weapon.

If you’re short on coins, you can find our guide after the jump with tips on how to attain Strange Coins (including an easy way to get 9) and the hilarity that has ensued on Twitter over players going nuts for the rare beast.

For the weekend, Xur can be found at the bar in the Tower Hanger and will charge you 17 Strange Coins for the Gjallarhorn. Here are a few ways to rack up some coins:

  • Weekly Heroic Strike – 3+ Strange Coins
    • Lv. 26 – 3 Strange Coins
    • Lv. 30 – 6 Strange Coins
    • Lv. 32 – 9 Strange Coins
  • Weekly Nightfall Strike – ??? Strange Coins
  • Bungie Emails – 9 Strange Coins

If you have three characters, running the Weekly Heroic Strike at lv. 32 alone will get you enough coins to purchase the Gjallarhorn. Other methods can include running raids like Vault of Glass, which may drop lots of blue engrams which in turn can be Strange Coins. If that’s not enough and you haven’t already done so, fire up the Destiny app on your phone or tablet. By signing up for Bungie emails through it, you’ll be rewarded 9 Strange Coins, getting you halfway there.

Now for online insanity.

Ever wonder what would happen if you could equip the Gjallarhorn in all of your character slots? Wonder no more!

And finally, a song from Xur to all those who’ve been shying away from Destiny.

The highly-anticipated Destiny: The Taken King arrives on September 15th with a whole lot of new content.
