Dolby Vision has announced a partnership with Sony Pictures which will see the Hollywood studio incorporate their tech in their upcoming releases. With Dolby Vision, movies are to be brighter and offer higher contrast which can be utilized in physical media or digital downloads.

Some more details after the jump.

Specifically, Dolby Vision will be utilized in the mastering process for the release of 4K movies. An advocate of the format, Sony Pictures plans to release movies in the Ultra HD resolution via Blu-ray and digital downloads through their own 4K media server. Using Dolby Vision, Sony Pictures will be able to offer high-dynamic-range (HDR) imaging with a wider range of contrast and more vibrant colors.

Richard Berger, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Digital Strategy and Advanced Platforms, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

We continue to be enthusiastic about the growing consumer appetite for next-generation 4K Ultra HD content. With Dolby Vision imaging technology, we can now master our movies with the highest-quality visual experience for distribution to consumers’ homes

No word yet on which movies will be getting the HDR treatment nor when they’ll be available.

It’s worth noting that the above image should be used as a reference to what Dolby Vision can offer and not proof of the final result, seeing how taking a photo of a TV displaying different video qualities provides a subpar result at best.
