Sony Mobile Officially Announces Pink Xperia Z5

Pink Xperia Z5

Leaked, teased, and now officially announced, the pink Xperia Z5 is the latest color variant offered by Sony on their flagship line. Besides the color change, the pink Xperia Z5 is the same smartphone you’ve always known.

As of February 2016 the family of Xperia Z5 smartphones will be gaining a new member in the form of a warm, sophisticated pink variant of Xperia Z5 designed to round out the options for prospective Xperia owners and provide customers with new ways of expressing their style.

The new variant uses the same frosted glass finish as the existing phones and combines this with a light dusky pink colour palette designed to provide a natural complement to the existing green, white and black options.

A few more tidbits and a lot more pictures after the jump.

Choosing a colour is a detailed process. The material of the phone and the design of the curves and edges play an important role and has a great impact on which colour is best suited. We knew we wanted to add pink to the Z5 series from our very first moodboards and sketches as it seemed to compliment the colour palette to the rest of the range.

But to get the tone right with the frosted glass and aluminium frame did take some time. We researched many places in which the most beautiful shades of pink can be found, from nature and Japan’s own Sakura cherry blossom right through to the colours in the sky during a beautiful sunset. We wanted the colour to appear strong and modern, and here the material is playing an important role. I feel what we have achieved with the light dusky pink is fresh, contemporary and modern in the Z5 materials.

In other words, it’s pink. But in all seriousness, healthy color options is something I champion all the time. The truth is that enough phones come in the black/grey color scheme and when we buy a flagship product, we do want it to stand out. My iPhone 6 was Space Gray and when it came time to purchase the iPhone 6s, I was half tempted to go with the Rose Gold color, simply to have my phone stand out. However the will of the universe was that they didn’t have that color in 128GB on launch and so I have another Space Gray phone.

But with a varied color option, not only do you give your long time buyers something new to consider, but it can help attract a variety of people and not just ‘women’ who would want pink. As it stands, the pink Xperia Z5 is not available on the Xperia Z5 Compact or Xperia Z5 Premium. No word yet if new carriers will also be receiving the pink Z5 when it arrives in February which obviously means those of us in the US will not be seeing this phone.
