Sony Xperia X Camera Causing Overheating?

Please let this be an isolated incident.

Sony Xperia phones have often been criticised for heat issues, especially around the camera. The Sony Xperia Z3+ was notorious for suffering from heating problems, but many recent Xperia models have also suffered from force shutdowns on the camera when video recording. It was disappointing to hear that the Xperia X models would not support 4K video recording, and it looks like optimising thermal performance was one of the key reasons for this. Well it looks like the Xperia X may have issues even with 1080p video recording judging by the video below Check out how the Xperia X performs versus the Samsung Galaxy S7.

According to the video above, the issue isn’t so much that the Xperia X gets any hotter than the Galaxy S7 that it’s compared to, but that when it reaches the same threshold, it no longer allows you to record due to the heat. And if not that, the Xperia X experiences significant frame rate drop in the recording.

Seeing how little duress the Xperia X is actually put under, I have to imagine that Sony has tested for this and designed it to be able to record more than a few minutes. As it stands, I wouldn’t be too alarmed by the video but if similar complaints start popping up over the next few weeks as world wide rollout continues, then it might be time to reconsider the Xperia X – or at least wait for a firmware update if you’re planning on recording a lot with it.

It’s worth noting that many others in forums and comment sections have pointed out that they’ve experienced no overheating problems with their Xperia X when recording 1080p at 60fps.
