Sony’s Concept for Android is Coming to Xperia X

sony_concept_for_android_xperia_xSony’s Concept for Android is an initiative that dates back to a few years now which allows owners of select Xperia devices get a taste for the latest software that will be coming. This is a way for those eager to push their phone and capabilities to get their hands on the latest and it also provides Sony with a lot of valuable information on what’s working and what’s not. In short, it’s a fancy word for beta.

Now Sony is bringing their beta program to Xperia X and with it, Android 7.0 Nougat. As XperiaBlog notes:

Xperia X users will get to play with Concept for Android 7.0 Nougat, which is a great incentive to sign up. Sony says that the Concept will also include a sneak-peek at some of the latest features that will be part of future Xperia products. Users on the Concept software have the choice between receiving software on a stable track (around once a month) and on an experimental track (as often as once a week). This preference can be chosen through the inTouch application settings.

Unfortunately, this also means that Concept releases for the Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact will likely come to an end, mainly due to the fact that the handset will not be updating to Android Nougat.

As it stands, the program is only valid on single SIM Xperia X (F5121) phones and only available in Europe. From Sony:

  • A sneak-peek at some of the latest features that will be part of future Xperia products
  • Android 7.0, Nougat, which includes new native features such as multi-window support and improved notifications
  • Access to Sony’s inTouch community, providing direct access to our software engineers and a chance to influence development & coming releases

Those who wish to learn more about the program can visit Sony’s blog to get additional details.
