Today is a twofer for Samsung news. As someone who obsessively covers and utilizes Sony and Apple hardware, you’d likely guess that I’m one of the world’s biggest fans of Samsung. So huge in fact that this news brings nothing but a smile to my face. Sure that’s a bit childish of me but as a company who clearly lacks any kind of taste or moral compass, the following news comes off the least surprising.

 Samsung Group’s Jay Y. Lee was formally arrested on allegations of bribery, perjury and embezzlement, an extraordinary step that jeopardizes the executive’s ascent to the top role at the world’s biggest smartphone maker.

The Seoul Central District Court issued the warrant for Lee’s arrest early Friday. Including procedural steps and appeals, it may take as long as 18 months for a trial and verdict. The decision was made because of the risk that he might destroy evidence or flee, a court spokesperson said.

Investigators are looking into whether the vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Co. was involved in providing as much as 43 billion won ($38 million) to benefit a close friend of South Korean President Park Geun-hye, in exchange for government support of his management succession. Prosecutors allege that Lee, 48, funded Park’s associates as he tried to consolidate control over the sprawling conglomerate founded by his grandfather. 

I cannot tell you how little respect I have for a company like Samsung and the amount of bullshit technology they spew out yearly in hopes of something catching on. What I have even a smaller appetite for are companies who run negative ads (or smear campaigns) against their competitors. If you need to pull others down in order to rise up, you yourself belong in the mud.

It’s worth noting I’ve made it my own personal crusade to ensure any family or friends that has a Samsung product replaces with something different when the time comes and anybody who is considering something from them finds a better product. Friends don’t let friends use Samsung products.
