Meet the massive Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra with a 6-inch edge-to-edge display

Ever wanted to use a tablet as your phone? If so, you’re in luck. At MWC 2017, Sony announced the Xperia XA1 Ultra, the successor to the XA Ultra. Like the name is a mouthful, the device itself is also a handful at 6-inch with an edge-to-edge design that makes it feel like you’re holding a piece of glass.

If you’re into phablets, the XA1 Ultra has a ton of features for you to consider, all while addressing some of the biggest complaints about last year’s model like screen resolution which is now bumped up to 1080p. Like all smartphones, one of the most important features is its camera and the XA1 Ultra does not disappoint.

For its front shooter, you’ll find a 23-megapixel 24mm wide-angle F2.0 lens camera with a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor with hybrid autofocus and or its front-facing camera (AKA selfie camera), a 16-megapixel with a 1/2.6-inch Exmor R sensor with a 23mm wide-angle F2.0 lens. Thanks to the bigger display, Sony was able to also find room for an LED flash for its front-facing camera.

  • 32GB or 64GB internal storage
  • 2,700mah battery
  • microSD memory card slot
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • NFC
  • USB Type-C port

Seeing how the Xperia XA1 Ultra is a whole .5-inches bigger than the Xperia XZ Premium, I’m surprised that it offers a smaller 2,700mah battery versus 3,230mAh. If I had to take a guess, that’s more due to price targeting than design constraints.

Unlike the XZ Premium which only comes in two colors, you can get the XA1 Ultra in Gold, Black, White, and Pink in Spring 2017.
