Sony Xperia XZ Premium named “Best New Smartphone at MWC 2017″

Sony had one clear goal for their engineers when it came time to build their 2017 flagship smartphone, the Xperia XZ Premium – if there’s a feature under the sun that can be crammed inside of this phone, you’re to do it, no matter the cost. For that reason, we’ve yet to be told the price of the powerful phone and I’m sure when announced, a few heads will explode.

Until then, Sony can bask in all the acolytes they’ve been receiving for the XZ Premium, including having it be called the “Best New Smartphone or Connected Mobile Device at MWC 2017” at the annual Global Mobile Awards (Glomo Awards).

But that’s not the only praise for the XZ Premium. A few others include:

  • UK Blog Awards – Best Innovation
  • Tech Radar –Reader’s Choice & Best Smartphone
  • Wired – Coolest of MWC

Xperia XZ Premium is our most technologically capable smartphone ever. We’re honoured by this recognition – Xperia XZ Premium has received endorsement from operator partners, media, consumers and industry peers alike, which is testament to our relentless pursuit of innovation, to deliver great products and experiences for consumers.

Of course as many of you know, I’ve argued plenty of times that what holds Sony Mobile and many other Sony Electronics products back from success has little to do with their actual quality or feature set and more to do with pricing, availability, and marketing.

Hopefully the champagne popping at Sony is being kept to a minimum and that this isn’t a sign of what they hoped to achieve and instead a sign of where they want to start and build from.

I know I can be tough on Sony but trust me it comes from a place of love so keep that in mind when I say – you won this prestigious award and you command some of the best cameras, including supposedly in mobile now, and that’s the best picture (header photo) you could take? It’s all about presentation and how you present yourself to the world. That’s marketing 101 or something, right?
