If there is one thing that Sony knows how to make, it’s hardware. The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet takes everything that’s good from Sony, like a gorgeous 10.1-inch IPS 2K (2560 x 1600) display that offers 17-hours of video playback packed in a ludicrously 6.1mm thick (or thin?) device that weighs only 395g. Even with such a thin housing, Sony didn’t skimp on the internal specs, like an 8-core processor with 3GB RAM. Confirmed: Android 5.0 Lollipop for Only Sony Xperia Z Devices

It’s time to check your series model if you’ve been wanting Android 5.0 Lollipop on your Sony Xperia smartphone. For some time now, Sony has hinted that Android 5.0 would only be coming to Xperia Z devices and today, the company has confirmed that. Way back in October, Sony put out a list of devices that would support the latest OS from Google which was limited to Xperia Z models. Their statement then:

We’ll be making Sony Mobile’s Android L upgrade available for the entire premium Z series

Many wondered if there might be hope for models other than the Xperia Z line after Sony had finished the rollout. Now the company has clarified that Lollipop will only be coming to Xperia Z devices (smartphones and tablets). Virgin Atlantic to Equip Engineers with Sony SmartEyeglass

Remember the Sony SmartEyeglass that just became available for pre-order for developers? Well it just got a big boost in market penetration and mindshare thanks to Virgin Atlantic. I’d previously argued that while the tech comes off too cyborg like for mainstream consumers, that there could be real world applications for professional industries such as architects, doctors, and engineers.

It seems that the folks at Virgin Atlantic share a similar view and have announced a partnership with Sony that would see Virgin engineers use the SmartEyeglass. More details await you after the jump.

Sony Xperia M4 Aqua Video Shows How to Put Its Water- & Dust-Proof Design to Good Use

For a long time now, a stable of Sony’s mobile products has been water- and dust-proof housing which allows you to travel freely without worrying about its fait. Better yet, Sony hasn’t kept these features exclusive to its premium line of Xperia Z smartphones and tablets (like the Xperia Z4 Tablet) as can be seen with the Xperia M4 Aqua. Unveiled yesterday, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful Android tablets ever. Packing an impressive 8-core 64-bit processor and 17 hours of video playback, the Android 5.0 Lollipop tablet has a lot going for it. From Sony’s perspective, you’ll likely be using the 10.1-inch tablet with a 2K screen mostly to consume content and, as such, has packed it with 32GB internal memory with upgradable storage. Besides an extremely high-resolution screen, you’ll find built-in noise cancelation and water/dust-proofing incase you want to consume in more exotic locations.

Yes, Sony is Ditching the ‘Walkman’ Name on Mobile

Eagle-eyed readers will have likely spotted that, on all promotional materials for the just-announced Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua, a certain branding is missing. Specifically, the music app is no longer called Walkman and is instead referred to simply as ‘Music.’ Alongside Music, you’ll find other media related apps like Albums, Video, PlayStation, and Lifelog. This has caused quite a bit of debate among Sony fans and what it could mean. Some have wondered if it had to do with the end of Music Unlimited or if it’s more related to Sony closing down or spinning off parts of the company that are no longer working.

The answer is, however, much less exciting, though it’s reflective of where Sony is today and a change that will be coming to other Xperia devices.

A successor to the Xperia Z2 Tablet, the Xperia Z4 Tablet has some of the latest and most powerful technologies like an insane 8-core processor with 3GB RAM in a design that’s even thinner than its predecessor. We’ve already seen an accidental leak from Sony about the Xperia Z4 Tablet which is expected to be announced on Monday at MWC 2015. While details are slim at the moment, we do know that the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet will once again offer a 10-inch screen but with a higher resolution 2K (2048 × 1536) screen. Beyond that, I’m sure we’ll see the typical Android product upgrade which will include a faster processor and more RAM. Latest Sony Video Probably Over Sells the Xperia E4g

The Sony Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g are the latest budget-friendly smartphones from Sony. Designed for emerging markets with a €99 and €129 price tag, Sony has finally been able to put together devices with compelling features and a price tag that’s designed to move. Assuming the right distribution and awareness strategy is executed with their April release, Sony has a chance of moving a decent amount of them and perhaps gaining some marketshare.

Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet Gains PS4 Remote Play

A new over-the-air (OTA) firmware update (build number 23.0.1.E.0.208) has just been released for your device which brings with it the typical enhancements and bug fixes. More importantly, though, the latest firmware gives the Xperia Z2 Tablet the ability to utilize PS4 Remote Play. Sony Bullish On Xperia E4 Lineup; Orders 3 Million Units

In the last two weeks and just a week before MWC 2015, we’ve learned about two different budget-friendly smartphones from Sony. The Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g are designed to target emerging markets and those who want a smartphone without all the bells and whistles of a flagship device. Offering features like quad-core processor and 4G LTE, the units provide plenty of bang for their price point which start at £99 (€135 or $154). Keep in mind, that’s the full price of the phone and not tied to a two-year contract. Now according to reports, Sony is quite bullish on its latest offering that could see them finally make some gains in their mobile division.
