PSA: Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Available on PSN for Download

Star Wars: The Force Awakens on PlayStation Store

I’ve been asked this a few times so I figured I’d write a quick blurb about it. For any of you who’ve gone all digital or can’t wait till the Blu-ray release, you’ve been able to download Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the past few days on PSN. Once downloaded, you can watch the flick on PS4 and PS3. I believe you can also watch them on PS Vita as well though Sony makes no specific mention of the portable.

Keep in mind that as a digital download, you can delete the movie and download again when needed. Those who purchase the digital version will also get bonus features like:

Uncover the secrets behind the making of the movie in a feature-length documentary. Plus Deleted Scenes and other spectacular bonus content, including The Story Awakens: The Table Read, Crafting Creatures, Building BB-8, and much more.

So if you’ve been itching to watch The Force Awakens again, may I direct you to your nearest PlayStation console.

PlayStation Vue Arrives on Amazon Devices & It’s a Big Deal

PlayStation_Vue_Amazon_Fire_TV

For regular readers of the site, you know that time and time again, I’ve argued that the future of PlayStation is not another console and yet a cohesive service that lives on other devices. Think about the ceiling Netflix would have reached if its service only ran on their own hardware. PlayStation is no different and I suspect that there will most certainly be a PS5 – but a PS6 or PS7 as a dedicated console? That seems less and less likely – and more likely that, much like Netflix, they’ll be an app on hardware from other manufacturers like Amazon and perhaps Apple.

If you need further proof of this, look no further than PlayStation Vue arriving on streaming boxes from Amazon. Let’s talk more after the jump.

‘PlayStation Vue’ Gains ESPN, ABC & More Disney-Owned Networks – Becomes Real Contender

PlayStation_Vue_Channels

As a quick recap for those not familiar, PlayStation Vue is the internet-based TV offering from Sony. Though limited to only a handful of cities (though more are on the way), the cloud-based streaming service allows you to watch television live like any other cable provider. What differentiates them from other beloved services, like, say, Comcast, is the cloud component. Without the need of a DVR, PS Vue allows you to rewatch many of the shows up to 3 days in what’s called ‘Catch Up.’

Of course for many, that’s not enough which is where the true cloud component of Vue comes into play. Dubbed ‘My Shows,’ it allows your favorite shows and all upcoming airings to be automatically saved to the cloud for up to 28 days without any conflicts. And unlike traditional cable, Vue even allows you to option of a la carte by selecting the channels you want, aka paying for what you want. Despite all this, I myself have yet to give the service a try due one large networks lack of presence, Disney. Sure Vue has CBS, NBC, Fox, and all the sub channels that go with them like SyFy, USA, and AMC to name a few but without Disney, there is no ESPN and no ABC which airs my favorite show on TV right now, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Now all of that is changing.

Samsung Smart TV Models with ‘PlayStation Now’ Support Revealed

CES_2015_PlayStation_Now_Samsung_TV_1

Sony showed off its PlayStation Now service running on Samsung televisions nearly a year ago at CES 2015. Since that time, the two companies have announced support for the feature with compatibility ranging on a wide number of 2014 and 2015 Samsung Smart TV models. Just earlier this week, Sony aggressively expanded its PlayStation Now offering by adding a 105 new games to the streaming service and in doing so, nearly doubling its library. Even Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Kcnichiro Yoshida has revealed the company’s intentions on expanding PSN into a “global entertainment platform” and one way of doing that is by making the service available on as many devices as possible.

The trouble has been that in the many months that PlayStation Now has been available on Samsung televisions, it’s been unclear exactly which models support the service. Now, we can finally reveal which Samsung Smart TVs support what will be the future of PlayStation.

Sony Wants PSN to be a “Global Entertainment Platform”

PS4_PSN

There is no doubt that PlayStation, thanks to the success of PS4, continues to do well and even outperform most analyst expectations. Due to the ever increasing momentum which is greatly helping Sony’s bottom line while other divisions like Mobile continue to struggle, Sony not so surprisingly wants to leverage the division in other to scale further. In short, Sony wants to capitalize on the reach of PS4 and the money it’s bringing in and further invest in the gaming division.

An Inside Look at Making ‘Powers’ on PlayStation

PlayStation_Powers_Season_1_Cast

Just a week ago, we talked about how Sony has green lighted Powers: Season 2. Launched as part of an initiative to bring original and exclusive content to the PlayStation Network, Powers is set in a grittier world of super heroes where the consequences of those with powers is felt everyday.

After the jump, an inside look at how Powers is made for PlayStation Network.

Powers: Season 2 Confirmed

Powers

Sony has some big plans for PlayStation Plus in 2016. Among them, the company wants to expand online multiplayer titles while also strengthening original contents like Powers. More and more, we’re seeing original content created by your none traditional companies like Netflix, Amazon, and now PlayStation. As the traditional cable model begins to fall, it’s becoming more important than ever for platforms to have shows unique to them in order to draw people in. While Netflix is good, it’s great when you consider you have shows like House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Sense8 to name a few.

Though new at it, Sony is looking to do the same thing with PlayStation which is good news for fans of Powers. More details after the jump.

Are You Experiencing Issues With PSN Today?

PSN_Logo_ClearSome members of the community are reporting issues with PSN today. At this time, it doesn’t appear to be a widespread issue and personally, I haven’t had a problem logging onto PSN and getting games like Destiny up and running. Still, Sony seems aware of the matter and is looking into it.

Arabic Support Comes to PlayStation Store

PlayStation_Store_Arabic

It’s always a good sign when a service you like expands to new regions and supports other popular languages. From a business standpoint, the more countries and languages that PlayStation can support means the more people who will easily have access to Sony’s content which in turn means higher sales. For gamers, it means we get to share our passion with others and a healthy Sony is only good for us as it translates to more money to invest in the brand we’re all supporting.

Now, the PlayStation Store has added another language to its arsenal: Arabic.

‘Powers’ Holds the Key to Original Programming on PlayStation

Powers

By now, we’re all familiar with the idea of a superhero show. Whether your favorite focuses on a singular character, like Smallville did, or follows a team based in a super world, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., we’re inspired to believe that our world really could be filled with superheroes – and we just don’t know it yet. What makes Powers stand out from the likes of these is not its content so much as its platform; as PlayStation’s first push into original programming, and  with the fact that it’s available exclusively on PlayStation Network, this is one unique show.
