Over a Dozen New Indie Titles Coming to PlayStation 4, Vita

largeThe calendar has flipped over to May–though who really flips calendar pages anymore–and it’s getting closer to E3 2014, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 10 to 12. The expo, home to big announcements and even larger hype, is sure to be a showcase for some big unannounced games for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and maybe even the PlayStation 3, hopefully of the AAA variety. But last year Sony made some noise when they spent several minutes highlighting great indie titles that would be coming to the PS4, spearheaded by PlayStation VP of Third Party Development Adam Boyes. Since last June, it seems like a new independent developer is announcing that they will be coming to PlayStation devices every week — and this week, twelve of them made it public at the same time.

At Sony Computer Entertainment America’s headquarters in Foster City, CA on Wednesday, Boyes and the developer relations team unveiled a dozen indie titles that will be making their console debut on the PS4, PS3, or PS Vita, and each developer had a little something to say over on the official PlayStation Blog. You can find a wrap up showcasing each of the titles right here, but after the break check out some trailers and screenshots for these big little games, as well as some info straight from the devs themselves.

PSN Leaderboard Support to Be Discontinued For PlayStation Mobile

PlayStation_Mobile_DevicesWhile PlayStation Mobile hasn’t been a sure fire hit, it’s had a niche group of gamers and developers who’ve been loyal to the concept. For those not familiar, PlayStation Mobile was/is Sony’s attempt at expanding beyond the core PlayStation consoles and creating games that run on PlayStation certified devices which include select Android smartphones/tablets, and the powerful PS Vita. Sony hope that those who enjoy the game experiences on PlayStation Mobile and don’t own a PlayStation console might find their way back to one of those devices and join the PlayStation family. Now, Sony has sent a notification to all developers that support for PlayStation Mobile leaderboard will cease on June 30th, 2014 and that developers must update their game code and remove the feature from their game.

Should You Buy ‘Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut’ On PS4?

Featured_PS4_Strike_Suit_Zero_ReviewSince the release of the PlayStation 4 (and even before, with the PlayStation 3), Sony has made it clear that they want more indie developers and games on their console. I personally enjoy these smaller game experiences and as I play more of them I am finding myself drawn to them as much if not more than the standard AAA title. Having said that, I was very excited to get my hands on the space shooter Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut. Strike Suit Zero was originally funded through Kickstarter in 2012 and released on PC in 2013.  The game comes to PlayStation 4 in  Director’s Cut form with new features and updates. Does Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut shine on the PlayStation 4? Keep reading to find out!

2014 Sony 4K Televisions to Include PlayStation Now, Can Stream PS3 Games In 4K

ps now

Unveiled at CES 2014, PlayStation Now is a streaming services that can bring PlayStation 3 titles to the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. Think Netflix for gaming. At the time of its unveiling, we were able to get our hands on the PS Vita and stream God of War: Ascension to the powerful handheld without a hitch. It’s expected that Sony will officially release the cloud-based service at E3 2014. While at the time, Sony was only talking about PlayStation Now for the PS4 and PS Vita, the company made it clear that the service would expand beyond gaming consoles and onto televisions, smartphones, and tablets. Today, Sony takes the first big step to bring PS3 titles to a entirely new market and reach beyond the core gaming enthusiast.

PlayStation_Store_Update_04152014

Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for April 15th, 2014. While you won’t find anything as shocking as the AA airline tweet here from the other day, this weeks PlayStation Store update does have a host of goodies which include the highly anticipated Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 4 and Dead Nation for the PlayStation Vita.

As a side note, seeing how MMORPG’s require a monthly subscription, it’s never made sense to me that publishers can charge for the game still. Luckily FF14 comes at a discount with the normal edition $59.99 and a collector’s edition for $59.99. As you guessed, details are all after the jump.

This game is currently available in enhanced form as Persona 4: Golden for the PlayStation Vita and I highly recommend you play it on that platform. However, if that is not an option, you owe to yourself to pick up the PlayStation 2 Classic version as the game is fantastic.

Finally, PlayStation Plus users will be receiving Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark (PS3/PS Vita Cross-Buy) for free along with many discounts on several games. Keep reading to see a complete list of content available on the PlayStation Store this week!

Should You Buy ‘Deception IV: Blood Ties?’ (PS3/PS Vita)

Deception_4_Blood_Ties_ReviewI have been a fan of the Deception franchise since  Tecmo’s Deception: Invitation to Darkness released for the original PlayStation in 1996. In that game you play as a servant of the devil and are tasked with defending ‘The Castle of the Damned’ from all manner of heroes and adventurers who are unfortunate enough to enter. The gameplay was in the 1st person perspective and to defeat the enemies the player had to set traps to either stun, kill, or capture the intruders. My preteen self enjoyed the dark story and unique (at-the-time) concept of playing as the ‘bad guy’. Fast forward  to today and it has been 9 years since the last Deception game. This week Deception IV: Blood Ties  released here in the United States and became the newest entry in the franchise. Does Deception IV: Blood Ties stack up to its predecessors? Keep reading our full review to find out!
