Sony Music Unlimited Update for iOS Brings Offline Mode, 320 Kbps Streams

Despite the Sony Music Unlimited service having little traction with consumers, Sony continues to improve the service with updates to the vast platforms it covers which include iOS, Android, Sony televisions, Blu-ray players, and PlayStation consoles like the PS3 and PS Vita. The latest round of updates comes for iOS users which includes iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad though the service lacks a native iPad app. The Sony Music Unlimited 1.3 software once live will give iOS users access to offline mode which allows them to download entire albums or tracks and listen without the reliance of an internet connection.

Another benefit is a bump in music quality to 320 Kbps. The higher quality AAC files which can be turned on or off via the settings screen allows for higher quality audio, perfect for owners of premium headphones or for those who like to stream the music to their stereo system. One bit of caveat in all of this is that the crystal clear 320kbps AAC high fidelity audio” is only available while streaming and cannot be used during offline mode.
From Sony:

If you’re not a subscriber to the Music Unlimited service, this is a great time to jump aboard!  For a limited time, a 12 month Premium subscription to the Music Unlimited service is just $41.99 for PS Plus members – a discount of over 65 percent from the regular monthly price.  Those who don’t have a PS+ membership can also take advantage of a special rate of $59.99 for the 12 month Premium subscription.  More information about the offer can be found at PlayStation Blog.

Sony initially announced the update to 320Kbps at CES 2013 for Android and Sony/PlayStation devices. The update is expected to be released in the coming weeks for iOS users.
