Sony Pledges BD-Live on All Releases

Sony’s VP of New Business Development, Rick Marty, during the Home Media Expo pledged that Sony Pictures would include BD-Live (Blu-ray live) as a standard feature on all future Blu-ray releases. This all comes after some fantastic integration into Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Men in Black.

Marty went on to say :

“We have seen a great response so far. Twenty percent of people who bought the titles are activating BD Live, and of that 20%, 75% went and downloaded something from the discs. There is an appetite for this.”

Marty finished off with;

“We are in the early days of BD Live, and this is just a taste of what the technology can do.”

Although Blu-ray might not be for all, it really allows those who are movie buffs to get more out of their movies with interactive content and downloadable content.

Sony is promising to have a 27-inch very soon (and by that, they mean as soon as it makes sense to make them because these guys are currently damn expensive). Stay tuned for an actual run down of what OLED is and what makes it so mind bending thing.

Blu-ray Awareness hits 60%

Seems like the BDA association is on a role. Although we would all wish this number was for adoption, its alteast a good start to there as a recent survey of the American household concludes that atleast 60% of people are aware of Blu-ray. So although this doesn’t turn around to actual sales, it means that the consumer is aware of the product and you cant buy something that your not aware of. Now its up to the BDA to start educating the consumer and retailers and really show to the consumer what Blu-ray has to offer.

Blockbuster to Expand Blu-ray

In yet another nod to damn from customers and a good push to help raise further awareness from the Sony backed format Blu-ray, Blockbuster is going to be displaying 42″ monitors, powered by the PlayStation 3, showing off Blu-ray. Blockbuster is also looking to raise its inventory dramatically by Fall. In a statement, Blockbuster merchandising and distribution exec David Podeschi said, “We believe Blockbuster is perfectly positioned to drive consumer adoption of this next-generation DVD format and to become the customer’s headquarters when it comes to renting or buying Blu-ray movies.”

Its nice to see Sony work with retailers and help raise awareness and also show customers the benefits that Blu-ray can offer in the home theater, because the sooner customers embrace Blu-ray the sooner, the prices can fall and with lower prices, the sooner customers can embrace Blu-ray. What an awesome circle to be apart of.

New Sony Bravia E4000

Can you spot the Bravia there? Look a little closer. Yep. That sexy thing in the middle is part of the new E4000 series, offering a ‘picture frame’ style edging in Midnight Sky, Aluminium, Pearly White and Dark Walnut to match your room decor.

The series is going to be offered in a 26, 32 and 40 inch, aimed at blending in with the surrounding by simulating a picture frame. This is being accomplished not only by design but by a Picture Frame Mode that displays images “like a real painting” when your not using the TV with the ability to load any pictures from a USB drive. The unit also boasts x.v.Colour d a PhotoTV HD mode for “lifelike reproduction of still photos from a connected compatible Cyber-shot or a compatible digital SLR camera.”

Pricing is yet to be announced but expect it to be cheap, compared to OLED TV’s.

As always, hit the MagicButton for 2 more high res shots.

And He Said “Let There be DTS”

With no sign of warning, no grin, no gesture, the Bahamut Sony has decided to grace us with DTS and squash one more PS3 flameware across the web. With the upcoming firmware 2.30, it would give the PS3 the ability to decode DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio tracks, “that is to say, Blu-ray audio at variable bit rates up to 24.5Mbps, and 7.1 streaming of 96K/24-bit tracks.” All on all this goes to the saying that you get what you paid for as the PS3 continues to prove its versatility and ability to adapt and offer cutting edge technology. So Blu-ray fans rejoice as two years into the cycle and the PS3 continues to be the best damn Blu-ray player out there.

Song brings 4 new E-Series projectors

Sony has launched four new PJs on us: the VPL-EW5, VPL-EX50, VPL-EX5 and VPL-ES5. Now according to Sony, these projectors are meant for boardroom meetings but with 2,500 ANSI lumens, Sony’s BrightEra imaging technology, and resolutions as high as WXGA (1,280 x 800) and contrast ratios up to 900:1, we have a feeling that these guys can hold their own outside of the pie chart parties. With that mind, dont be running to your local Sony Style store yet as these seem to be only for Asia Pacific, for now. We love Pie Charts too Sony!

iPhone to Control PS3

Now, usually when another site has a news story, I read it over a few times, check into the sources and come up with my own take on the story but the picture alone here has made my day so im not even going to try to top it. According to Gizmodo:

iPhone and iPod touch users will be able to control their Blu-ray players using an application called BD Touch. The application will use the network capabilities of Blu-ray hardware and Apple’s handheld devices to transfer data, allowing you to do many different things beyond controlling movie playback.
