On the heels of announcing Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, and Z3 Dual, Sony has also revealed that they’ll be bringing the latest OS update to additional devices as well. Unlike the said updates which will arrive next week, you can look forward to Lollipop on the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet starting today.
We’ve known for some time that Sony would begin its rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop to its fleet of Xperia Z devices, but we weren’t sure which devices would gain the update first. Now, Sony has put that question to rest by rolling out Android 5.0 to the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. The update will first come to the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact in the Nordics and Baltics and continue from there to further markets. It’s unclear exactly how the rollout will work as Sony did not break it down by region, but we should expect it to take nearly two weeks.

Along side the Xperia Z4 Tablet debut, Sony also announced the BKB50 Bluetooth keyboard. Oddly bundled in some countries with the Xperia Z4 Tablet which also inflates its price, the new Bluetooth keyboard promises to turn the Z4 Tablet into a more robust productivity machine. In essence, with the Bluetooth keyboard which has a dock styled connection, your Z4 Tablet can look and act like a laptop. Even better, Sony will be bringing some custom shorts and UI functionality so you can get more out of your tablet. Details after the jump.
In a new video, Sony is fully showing off Android 5.0 Lollipop which will come pre-installed on the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua. It’s also safe to assume that, once released, the leaked Sony Xperia Z4 will also come with Android 5.0. Sony has also promised to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to its entire Xperia Z line of devices with T-Mobile confirming that it will support the move. In the video, Sony not only shows off the new, cleaner UI that you’ll experience with Lollipop, but also new gestures, notifications, and features. While we’re still a good few months away from its June launch, Sony has officially revealed the pricing of the Xperia Z4 Tablet. For the most part, pricing is higher than previous models in the UK with the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Wi-Fi edition starting at £499. That price then jumps to £579 for the 4G LTE variant. So why the jump in price? Sony is taking the unusual move of bundling in their Bluetooth keyboard which more or less turns the Z4 Tablet into an Android powered laptop. Later today, we’ll have a more in depth look at the Sony Bluetooth (BKB50) keyboard. What makes this move a bit more headache inducing is that Sony isn’t bundling the keyboard in all countries. For example, in France, you’ll have a choice of purchasing the Z4 Tablet with or without a keyboard where in Netherlands, you can only purchase the LTE model with a keyboard.

Unveiled yesterday, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful Android tablets ever. If you’ve got a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, listen up. A new over-the-air (OTA) firmware update (build number 23.0.1.E.0.208) has just been released for your device which brings with it the typical enhancements and bug fixes. More importantly, though, the latest firmware gives the Xperia Z2 Tablet the ability to utilize PS4 Remote Play. For those not familiar, PS4 Remote Play allows you to connect your device to PS4 and stream the games on your device via local Wi-Fi. Additional details after the jump.
On Wednesday Sony Corp. unveiled its mid-term strategy update for the period FY2015-FY2017.
Sony is setting “profit generation and investment for growth” as the theme of its mid-range corporate plan from for the next three years. That means that any divisions running losses better run and hide. Sony won’t keep them. The emphasis of language on profit retention and boosting throughout the news release suggests that any endeavors not proving to contribute directly to profit or growth won’t be tolerated. The key focus now above everything else is to boost profit throughout all businesses and the overall message seemed to be aimed particularly at Sony shareholders. This new plan comes into effect from April.

Our friends at the Indonesian Postel Regulatory have come through once again. Just days after revealing three models numbers from Sony’s 2015 fleet of Xperia smartphones which likely includes their flagship Xperia Z4, the Indonesian equivalent to the FCC has likely spoiled Sony’s 2015 Xperia Tablet Z. In the past few years, despite a lack of success in the tablet market, Sony has continued to update and improve their slate offerings. While 2013 only saw Sony release one tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z, 2014 was a better year for company where they released the followup Xperia Z2 Tablet and a smaller Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact which offers a 8-inch screen.

Announced in early 2013, the Sony Digital Paper was a product that had been in the works for a long time. Aimed at business professionals (think legal or banking), the Sony Digital Paper offers a 13.3-inch E Ink display that is capable of mimicking traditional paper. Operated by touch via stylus or hand, the Digital Paper in essence can replace paper and make reading PDFs and signing A4-sized documents much easier. Boasting a HD display (1,200 x 1,600) and offering an unprecedented 3 week battery life while only weighing in at 12.6 ounces, the Sony Digital Display is a beast that’s altogether quite different than traditional tablets like the iPad. Think almost more Harry Potter than Iron Man.
What’s Really Happening at Sony’s Mobile Division?
News is spreading wide and fast that Sony is selling its mobile division, including iconic smartphones like the Xperia Z3 and tablet series. The “news” is the result of comments of Sony Corp. CEO Kaz Hirai, who mentioned different aspects of performance in various divisions and what that might mean for the future.
