Grand Theft Auto V was a big hit on the PlayStation 3 as you’d expect. To date, the game has sold over 17 million copies on the PS3 alone, making it one of the most successful games ever. To prove that they’re not done, at E3 2014, Sony and Rockstar surprised gamers when they announced that Grand Theft Auto V would be coming to the PlayStation 4 as well. While the same game for the most part, the big thing will obviously be the improved visuals that the PS4 can provide. Open world games like the GTA series tend to have lower visuals when compared to more path based games as the console has to bring to life an entire city at any given point versus only a given map in an FPS, for example.
With the PS4 boasting a far more powerful processor and a lot more RAM (8GB vs. 512MB), you’d think that GTA 5 would bring with it vastly superior graphics and you’d be right. A new trailer pits Grand Theft Auto V footage from the PS3 and PS4 versions against one another to give you a sense of just how much has improved. What’s more impressive is that the game engine in use will be tweaked to provide better visual fidelity on PS4 was originally developed with previous-gen consoles in mind. Now just imagine what RockStar can do with Grand Theft Auto VI on PS4 with an engine that’s optimized for the hardware.
After the jump, the comparison trailer awaits you.
