Guide To Your Next 2010 Sony Bravia

One of the hardest things to do is purchasing a TV, simply because there are so many options. I myself am in that internal debate currently: which Sony Bravia to purchase next? I currently have a 60″ Sony SXRD and there are a ton of options from Sony now but of course the one I want, the LX900 (their 3D TV), won’t be out until late June to mid July. The other issue that I personally have is that once you own a 60″ TV, its hard to go down to something smaller but again, that is a personal debate. The following will hopefully not get too techie detailed while giving you a good overview of each of the series. After that, hit the jump for a chart that breaks down the entire Sony Bravia series, feature by feature. Also, please note that I’m not listing any prices because they are constantly shifting and I believe you are savvy enough to find the best price for yourself.

Series: LX900

Sizes: 60/52/46/40
Motion Flow: 240hz (pro)
3D: Yes. Ready out of the box with two pairs of glasses
Overview: This is really the TV of TVs from Sony. You can stream video to it via built in Wi-Fi, it has web widgets, will adjust the sound and light based on your distance to the TV and is of course 3D ready out of the box so all you will need is to hook up a PS3 or jump on a 3D channel (yes, they are actually coming, including the World Cup 2010). This unit will be have Backlight LED and the Bravia Engine 3. If you’re looking for the top of the line experience and want more than just a good picture quality, this is the TV for you.

Series: HX900

Size: 52/46
Motion Flow: 240hz (pro)
3D: Is 3D ready. You will need additional equipment if you want to upgrade to 3D.
Overview: This TV is a step down from the LX900. This is almost more suited for those who want the pristine quality of the LX900 but don’t care for the extra features. This unit can stream via wireless and can do 3D but doesn’t have either option built in, therefore you must buy additional equipment in the future. This is perfect for those who want the extra features or picture quality, but are either not sure of the 3D route or simply there doesn’t exist enough content for them currently to make the jump, but also don’t want to purchase a new unit in the feature, just to go 3D and stream. Also, with a built in ambient sensor, the picture color adjusts based on rooms lighting during day and night.

Series: HX800

Size: 55/46/40
Motion Flow: 240hz (pro)
3D: Is 3D ready. You will need additional equipment if you want to upgrade to 3D.
Overview: Outside of the screen size differences between the HX900 and HX800, they are very similar and since this series wont be out for another month or so, I’m not entirely sure of other differences.

Series: NX800

Size: 60/52/46
Motion Flow: 240hz
3D: No
Overview: Currently, the most high end TV ready from Sony, this unit also features built in Wi-Fi. But you will notice this loses the 240hz (Pro) engine, meaning that although it is 240hz, the LX and HX series handle it more smoothly. Other than that, it uses the same Bravia 3 engine for a mind blowing visual experience. No ambient sensor.

Series: NX700

Size: 46/40
Motion Flow: 120hz
3D: No
Overview: All features are the same as the NX800 but you will note that the Motion Flow comes down to 120hz from 240hz. This means the motion isn’t nearly as smooth when you turn on Motion Flow on PS3 games or Blu-ray movies. With that being said, although Motion Flow is cool, maybe because I currently don’t have it and therefore I’m not used to it, I would turn this feature off on all the series (except when you do 3D, you then need 240hz, but you wont notice it). No ambient sensor.

Series: EX700

Size: 60/52/46/40/32
Motion Flow:120hz
3D: No
Overview: Almost identical to the NX700, except you lose Internet Widgets, but do gain built in Wi-Fi and Ambient Sensor. This unit also has a unique Presence Sensor where if you are not in the room, the picture dims down to save power and after 30 minutes of no motion, your audio shuts down and the TV automatically goes in standby mode. Absolutely awesome. I’m also going to be getting this in the 52″ for the bedroom. Cant wait.

Series: EX600

Size: 46/40/32
Motion Flow: No
3D: No
Overview: An almost stripped down EX700. Steps down to the Bravia Engine 2 (all higher end series have the Bravia Engine 3) and you lose Motion Flow all together. No internet Video, Wi-Fi or Ethernet port.

Series: EX500

Size: 60/88/46/40/32
Motion Flow: 120hz
3D: No
Overview: The motion flow makes a comeback here but still the Bravia Engine 2.

So hopefully this helps break down the information a little. For myself, I’ll be getting the LX900 in 60″ for the living room and the EX700 in 52″ for the bedroom. But if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Also, hit the jump for a chart of entire series next to each other.
