There isn’t much that I could say about The Last of Us that hasn’t already been said. Besides a beautifully mastered tale, Naughty Dog was also able to deliver a breathtaking game on the PS3 that many wouldn’t have thought possible. While the game was originally intended to be released in late Spring of 2013, the team needed a bit more time to polish and thus the game was delayed until early Summer. This began a rumor that Naughty Dog and Sony were working on a PS4 version, which, thus far, has yet to pan out. Now, thanks to new comments by the developer, there might be more bite to this story than anyone had originally thought.
Eric Monacelli, Community Strategist at Naughty Dog, recently wrote on the PlayStation Blog about the developer’s plan for 2014, which includes The Last of Us: Left Behind, a new DLC package. Monacelli was then asked by a fan “[for those that don’t] own a PS3, will there be any hope to see TLoU and its DLC moved over to the new console?”
His response:
We’re just getting our Naughty Dog engine up and running on PS4 as we work on the next UNCHARTED project. We will see what the future brings! 🙂
This of course is far from any real answer that can be read either way but it does bring up an interesting point. While Naughty Dog began working on the PS3 with a single team, the development of The Last of Us gave way that at some point, two teams were formed to allow the studio to release more titles on a regular basis. With Uncharted 4 likely a year or more into development and The Last of Us team having delivered their game on PS3, could there be room and time to bring the game to the PS4?
Discuss:
Would you want to see The Last of Us come to the PS4 and if so, would you double dip?
