Late last month, Sony unveiled the Xperia M2 Aqua. Nearly identical to the Xperia M2 which was released in early 2014, the Xperia M2 Aqua offers everything from that smartphone in a waterproof housing. Specifically, the Sony Xperia M2 Aqua offers IP65/68 waterproofing which bests their current flagship Xperia Z2 (IP58). In tern, the waterproof Xperia M2 Aqua can sit in depths of 1.5 meters for up to half an hour. Since that time, we’ve seen press shots of the Xperia M2 Aqua in copper though no such device has ever materialized. Now, we’ve learned why.

While the Xperia M2 Aqua was set to launch in white, black, and copper, Sony at last minute pulled the color and instead reserved it for their soon to be announced Xperia Z3. Expected to be unveiled tomorrow, the Sony Xperia Z3 is the company’s next flagship Android smartphone. According to sources, Sony felt that the copper color offered a premium look that went in line with the premium nature of the Z3. This could also be Sony’s attempt at countering the gold color offered by Apple on the iPhone 5S.

Along side the Xperia Z3, Sony will also announce the Xperia Z3 Compact which will offered in gorgeous mint, black, orange, and white.
