PS4 Universal Media Remote Finally Revealed

PS4_Universal_Media_Remote_5Rejoice, PlayStation 4 fans. After two long years of waiting, the PS4 is finally getting its own universal remote which will allow you to easily play and control Blu-ray movies among other media features on PS4. Connecting via Bluetooth, the new PS4 Universal Media Remote is capable of controlling up to four devices like your PS4, set top box, TV, and receiver. Much like the PS3 remote, this remote features a dedicated Home button to allow you to easily jump to the consoles main screen. There are also dedicated button for Option/Share, two new features for PS4. Perhaps best yet, the Power button on the remote allows you to turn on/off PS4 in a very easy manner, something that wasn’t possible on PS3.

The kicker for all this? The PS4 Universal Media Remote isn’t made by Sony.

PS4_Universal_Media_Remote_6That’s right, the PS4 Universal Media Remote is instead made by PDP. The product is one of the first and best looking ‘Officially Licensed’ accessories I’ve seen for PS4. It rightfully takes many of its cues from the PS3 remote while adding new features on top of it to make it even more convenient. In fact, if I didn’t know any better, between utilizing a near identical Sony design and PS4 packaging, I would have been hard-pressed to tell you it’s not an official Sony product.

As someone who consumes a lot of media on PS4 like Blu-ray movies and a ton of streaming from Netflix and HBO, having to use the Dualshock 4 has been an awkward dance at best. It’s always too easy to set down the controller and have something change because the R2/L2 was somehow pushed. It’s been two long years but we’re finally getting a remote! Slated for an October 31st release, the PS4 Universal Media Remote is priced at $29.99.

Thanks to Anant for the tip!
