We Could See a Sequel to The Order: 1886

One of the earlier titles on PS4, The Order: 1886, though highly scripted is a fantastic game that holds up four years later. Those of you who’ve yet to give it a try should do so this weekend as it’s a fairly short affair with no multiplayer – but seeing how it costs around $20 on PSN, it’s worth every penny. Needless to say, coming off the hyper craze of the PS3 era where multiplayer needed to be shoved into every game, reviewers were not kind to it and the game’s sales suffered immensely.

One thing that was always clear about the game was just how much time Ready at Dawn had spent on fleshing out a far more expansive world than we saw in the game which begs for additional games in the series. According to Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya, we might just get our wish.

Speaking with Game Informer, when asked about future games in the series, Weerasuriya has this to say:

The best way to answer that without giving anything… how can I say this… Is there a future? Yes. That IP has a future. It’s definitely built in that IP. That future is already something that was built from the very get go, from the first day we started working on it. As you know, since you played the game and for the ones who played out there… there is a larger storyline. There is a macro story that keeps going, it’s an IP that is actually bigger than the storylines that we have created. So there are legs to this IP, definitely.

As a bit of a movie buff, I’ve gone through enough heartbreaks of films that are set up for sequels that we never receive or cancelled TV shows that leave us with rich stories that are begging to be told. The Order: 1886 gave me a similar vibe and I hope it’s something that Sony still sees value in giving to us in the future. Now don’t take this as we’ll see something pop up at E3 but hopefully, it means that a small team may perhaps look at what can be next or at least somewhere in Sony, somebody is crunching the math to see if a sequel makes sense.
