Remember the Sony SmartEyeglass that just became available for pre-order for developers? Well it just got a big boost in market penetration and mindshare thanks to Virgin Atlantic. I’d previously argued that while the tech comes off too cyborg like for mainstream consumers, that there could be real world applications for professional industries such as architects, doctors, and engineers.

It seems that the folks at Virgin Atlantic share a similar view and have announced a partnership with Sony that would see Virgin engineers use the SmartEyeglass. More details await you after the jump.

Unveiled yesterday, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful Android tablets ever. Packing an impressive 8-core 64-bit processor and 17 hours of video playback, the Android 5.0 Lollipop tablet has a lot going for it. From Sony’s perspective, you’ll likely be using the 10.1-inch tablet with a 2K screen mostly to consume content and, as such, has packed it with 32GB internal memory with upgradable storage. Besides an extremely high-resolution screen, you’ll find built-in noise cancelation and water/dust-proofing incase you want to consume in more exotic locations.

Yes, Sony is Ditching the ‘Walkman’ Name on Mobile

Eagle-eyed readers will have likely spotted that, on all promotional materials for the just-announced Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua, a certain branding is missing. Specifically, the music app is no longer called Walkman and is instead referred to simply as ‘Music.’ Alongside Music, you’ll find other media related apps like Albums, Video, PlayStation, and Lifelog. This has caused quite a bit of debate among Sony fans and what it could mean. Some have wondered if it had to do with the end of Music Unlimited or if it’s more related to Sony closing down or spinning off parts of the company that are no longer working.

The answer is, however, much less exciting, though it’s reflective of where Sony is today and a change that will be coming to other Xperia devices.

As expected, at MWC 2015, Sony has officially unveiled the accidentally-leaked Xperia Z4 Tablet and it’s a powerhouse. A successor to the Xperia Z2 Tablet, the Xperia Z4 Tablet has some of the latest and most powerful technologies like an insane 8-core processor with 3GB RAM in a design that’s even thinner than its predecessor. Best of all, the new and insanely thin Xperia Z4 Tablet doesn’t skimp out on visual quality with a 10.1-inch IPS 2K (2560 x 1600) display that offers 17-hours of video playback.

We’ve already seen an accidental leak from Sony about the Xperia Z4 Tablet which is expected to be announced on Monday at MWC 2015. While details are slim at the moment, we do know that the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet will once again offer a 10-inch screen but with a higher resolution 2K (2048 × 1536) screen. Beyond that, I’m sure we’ll see the typical Android product upgrade which will include a faster processor and more RAM. The Sony Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g are the latest budget-friendly smartphones from Sony. Designed for emerging markets with a €99 and €129 price tag, Sony has finally been able to put together devices with compelling features and a price tag that’s designed to move. Assuming the right distribution and awareness strategy is executed with their April release, Sony has a chance of moving a decent amount of them and perhaps gaining some marketshare.

A new over-the-air (OTA) firmware update (build number 23.0.1.E.0.208) has just been released for your device which brings with it the typical enhancements and bug fixes. More importantly, though, the latest firmware gives the Xperia Z2 Tablet the ability to utilize PS4 Remote Play. In the last two weeks and just a week before MWC 2015, we’ve learned about two different budget-friendly smartphones from Sony. The Xperia E4 and Xperia E4g are designed to target emerging markets and those who want a smartphone without all the bells and whistles of a flagship device. Offering features like quad-core processor and 4G LTE, the units provide plenty of bang for their price point which start at £99 (€135 or $154). Keep in mind, that’s the full price of the phone and not tied to a two-year contract. Now according to reports, Sony is quite bullish on its latest offering that could see them finally make some gains in their mobile division.
