TGS 2011 – Final Fantasy X HD Coming to PlayStation Vita and PS3

At Sony’s TGS press conference, Square-Enix announced that they will be releasing the PS2 classic RPG Final Fantasy X HD for the PlayStation 3 and for PlayStation Vita.

According to Square Enix, the remastered FFX is a special 10th anniversary production. Made in 2001, Final Fantasy X was (at that time) Squaresoft’s landmark title that truly showed the power of the PS2. 10 years later, the game is still one of the most popular Final Fantasy games, aside from FF7.

Not many details were given at the conference, but the company has said that the PS Vita and PS3 versions of the game will both have the same specifications.

To kick off Sony’s press conference at the Tokyo Game Show, the company announced that the PlayStation Vita will release on December 17, 2011 in Japan. The system is still slated to release next year in North America and Europe.

To coincide with the next-generation-handheld’s release, a number of high-profile games are expected to come to the system:

  • Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
  • God’s Eater 2

The PlayStation Vita’s game lineup keeps getting better and better. But will the system face the same problem of being a host for PS3 game ports? How will the games mentioned above take advantage of the system’s unique features and control configurations?

DUST 514 Developer Interview

One of the bigger PlayStation 3 game announcements at E3 that kind of flew under everyone’s radar was CCP’s DUST 514. DUST 514 is a massively multiplayer online first person shooter set in the same PC MMO EVE Online universe, one of the longest running MMO’s in history.

While EVE online is all about politics, economy and space battles, DUST highlights down and dirty ground battles deep in the planetary wars found in EVE Online. Battles won or lost in DUST 514 will affect events, politics, and economy of the EVE online universe. Sonyrumors staff writer Jan Hutchings recently had a chance to meet with Sveinn J. Kjarval, EVE Online’s Community Developer to talk about the state of EVE Online and it’s cross-platform play with DUST 514 on the PS3 and the PS Vita.

Sony: More Than 3 Million New PSN Users After Breach

Remember that time when the PlayStation Network was breached? No?

Who can blame you? Most PlayStation 3 users have forgotten about it.

I know I have, especially after Sony’s generous “Welcome Back” Program, offering their consumers free games for loss of a service that was free to begin with.

It seems the outage didn’t affect the service as bad as most people thought. At the IFA Electronics show, Sony announced that the PS3 online service is doing much better than before the attack. Sony has also confirmed that more than 3 million new users joined the network after the breach.

According to Sir Howard Stringer, Sony CEO,

“I’m pleased to tell you that the PSN is more secure and better than ever… We are aggressively expanding its content. We have more than 3 million new customers since the network came back online, and sales are exceeding what we had before the cyberattacks.”

In a presentation that could only be described as uplifting, Stringer also said that the attacks may have temporarily slowed down their business but that it just helped them become a better company and that the worst times are all in the past.

“This year, we at Sony have been flooded, we’ve been flattened, we’ve been hacked, we’ve been singed,” he continued. “”But the summer of our discontent is behind us. The past is a prologue to future possibility.”

With more high profile games, DLC’s, and services joining the network everyday, as well as the free-to-join-and-use nature of the service, the outlook on the PlayStation Network looks bright even after the vicious breach earlier this year.

The 3rd entry on the PlayStation 3 is once again developed by the long time PlayStation veterans at Insomniac Games. NFL fans will be quick to note that the season is soon approaching, and, just in time, the PlayStation 3 app has gone live and is available to download for free. PAX Prime 2011 – GoldenEye 007 Reloaded PS3 Interview

If you missed out on Activision’s 007 remake on the Nintendo Wii last year, fear not as the publisher is getting ready to redeploy the secret agent in his best video game on the Playstation 3; and compared to the Xbox 360 release, Reloaded for the PS3 will support PlayStation Move motion control functionality.

GoldenEye 007 was originally made in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 game system and is widely considered to be the very first console first person shooter that got the controls right. It is also widely regarded as better than the movie the game is based from. This time, Pierce Brosnan is out, replaced by the darker and grittier Bond in Daniel Craig. I talked with Activision’s Glenn Oliver to talk about the game’s new exclusive features, PS Move Functionality, and multiplayer components at PAX Prime 2011.
