Just last week we revealed a new patent from Sony’s mobile division which would help you navigate your phone with simple head gestures like nodding to answer a phone call while doing Night at the Roxbury with your head would send the perfect text message to your lover. Now, thanks again to the United States Patent & Trademark Office, we’ve been able to discover another patent by Sony, filled in September 2010, which aims to make your life and cell phone navigation easier by determining the direction you are facing so that your phone’s GPS can give you more accurate directions.
Much like the previous patent, your phone would once again communicate with a bluetooth headset-like device on your ear to determine the direction you are looking. Based on your orientation, your phone’s GPS can then better navigate you in the direction you want to go. This is especially helpful when you’re in a new area and unaware of your compass heading and instead of turning right on the street, you make a left turn. This can range from an extra 5 minutes added to your trip to a more exaggerated wrong turn on a one-way street with nothing but Hummers coming towards you at 75mph.
Discuss:
Would you be more likely to wear a Bluetooth headset if more features like the above were included in them?
