Exciting times for Sony smartphone owners, updates sure are getting faster. Xperia M users watch out for a pop-up in PC Companion / Bridge for Mac in the coming weeks with the label of update 15.4.A.1.9.

This update has just appeared over at the American firmware registration authority and there is reasonable jump in the build number – new features are coming! This has come up for both the C1904/C1905 models which covers all Xperia M users globally. This is the “4.3 feature release 2” that we’ve been following and waiting for.

Update – The new Xperia M Update 15.4.A.1.9 is out now!

We’ve been keeping a close eye on hints of Xperia updates from around the world and we knew something was coming since the initial 4.3 update (read here and here and here). Well now we can see it! It’s update 15.4.A.1.9! The first to break news of 4.3 feature release 2 was of course, Vodafone Australia (thanks!).

What does this mean?

Most of us are on 15.4.A.0.23. The build number that appears now is 15.4.A.1.9. We know from the past few years of Xperia updates where to look for real changes in the updates. This is more than a minor update. But it’s not KitKat. But we can expect some new features, bug fixes and very likely a performance boost. The reason we can expect a performance boost is that for most ‘significant’ updates through Android that Sony has done in the past, the initial update is beautiful but slow and laggy. The following update cleans up the drags on performance.

We were all excited to see a nice update to our smartphones with 4.3 but as we discovered through readers here, over at Sony Xperia Care and XDA forum, this update troubled people with missing keyboards, freezing and rebooting just to name a few issues. It’s good to see fixes coming for this!
