Join the Team at SonyRumors.net!
At SonyRumors.net, we’re always looking for new and ambitious members of the community to join our already talented staff. Unlike other major sites, SRN, from the ground up, is built, based, and supported by the community and not corporations. Due to this practice, we work only for the love of our vision, though there are perks like attending E3, Comic-Con, and CES as press and building your resume. Though we come from a humble base, our goals are anything but grounded and instead, based on building the best Sony and PlayStation community we can.
This is why we need ambitious, self-motivated and creative members of the community like you to join our team. Though we work in small teams, we achieve grand things and your thoughts, inputs, and suggestions are always welcomed.
If you love Sony and PlayStation, have a knack for journalism, technology, and/or social media and think you have what it takes, join us! Current positions include:

UI / UX Designer – Full or Part-time
Saying we care about how or website looks and functions is an understatement. A site that started out as a simple blog now incorporates our Facebook/Twitter fans, YouTube/Flickr content, and other additions like Disqus and Amazon/Google ads. Steve Jobs famously said:
Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it’s really how it works.
Some things we look for from our applicants:
- Extremely strong visual designer. Good taste and keen aesthetic sensibility with the mindset that less is more.
- Multitasker and not dependent upon other people to meet deadlines
- Self-motivated. Are you sensing a theme here?
- Willing to work with team members with an open mind to designs and concepts that challenge you and the community.
- Have skills in the following areas: HTML, WordPress, CSS, and Photoshop (these are a plus, but not required).
- Flash, Maya, and C++ are great skills as well but not required and/or utilized for this site in any shape or form.

Writer – Full or Part-time
Despite popular belief out there, technology blogs don’t write themselves, no matter how much we obsess over the latest Sony product release or argue in the comments section about why PlayStation is better than Xbox. So with this realization comes that we need more writers on our side. Lucky for you, Sony is a vast company with all sorts of product categories so if you’re already a blogger and want to take your journalism career to the next level and have a passion for technology, especially Sony, then you’ll be working with our writing team to offer the latest Sony news.
Some things we look for from our applicants:
- Solid editorial and writing skills, no WTG, FTW, ROXORS, BOXORS, OMG? here.
- Extremely detail-oriented with facts to support your views.
- Strong, clear opinions about gadgets is welcomed but we’re not here to bash people/products. Constructive criticism is welcomed with a sense of ‘let’s build, not destroy.’
- Broad knowledge of various technology product categories and how they related to one another.
- Be willing to listen to your team members while also bringing new ideas to the table.
- Tireless and resourceful when doing research with a mindset of giving credit where credit is due.
- Movie references are always welcomed, of course!
- Please let us know the division of Sony in which you are most interested – Sony is a huge company so we are always looking for category-specific writers who will give their all to covering any specific part of the corporation. If you like everything: Awesome! Us too! FYI, some potential categories include:
- Playstation
- Sony/BMG
- Sony Pictures
- Sony Mobile (tablets, smartphones, etc.)
- Sony Cameras (Alpha, Cyber-Shot, NEX) and Camcorders (Bloggie, HandyCam, Pro)
- Sony Home Theatre (Bravia televisions, receivers, speakers, Blu-ray players, etc.)
- Sony Computers (VAIO desktops and notebooks)
- Believe it or not, self motivation is again a huge plus here.

Social Media Manager / Promotions
Though this seems to be turning into episodes of Myth Busters, I assure it’s not. However, we do have to address another myth out there and that’s websites exploding overnight or promoting themselves. In fact, what may seem like a fun and no-pressure position is in fact a very crucial, well thought-out, and goal-oriented job. If you have a fun, creative, and outgoing personality with a knowledge and passion for social media and technology, this position will make you feel right at home.
Some things we look for from our applicants:
- Knowledge of different social media platforms, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, WordPress, Linkedin, Tumblr, StumpleUpon, etc.
- Have a passion to interact with people and create a lasting conversation.
- Be a team member.
- Be creative and unique (especially when creating marketing and promotions pieces).
- Self motivation is a big one this field.
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Knowledge of Photoshop and HTML is a plus though not required.
