With each new console release, companies tend to release the big juicy details about their latest in intervals to get the maximum exposure. While the big reveals and announcements usually revolve around the key functionalities of the product, in this case the PlayStation TV, they don’t always address the smaller details that can at times be the key for one person purchasing or not purchasing a given product. The PlayStation TV is no exception and despite its small size, there is a ton this companion unit can offer. Still, there is  no way it will please everyone and check off every item on our wish list at a $99 price point.

9 Things I’ve Learned About PlayStation TV

PlayStation_TV_2The PlayStation TV is officially out in North America, nearly a year after it was released in Japan under the name PS Vita TV. Capable of streaming games from PS4 and PlayStation Now, the PlayStation TV will have access to over 700 titles across the Vita, PSP digital, PS One classic, and PlayStation minis spectrum. After performing our video unboxing of the PlayStation TV, here are 9 interesting things I’ve learned about PlayStation TV during my first 24 hours with the companion console.

Full PlayStation Vita Firmware 3.30 Details

Sony is bringing a hefty update to their powerful handheld that’s sure to make gamers happy. Unlike traditional Vita updates that tend to be ‘general bug fixes,’ the PlayStation Vita firmware 3.30 brings the long-awaited custom themes that will help make each Vita unique. Sony is also bringing major tweaks to the Vita calendar and trophy functionality among other updates.

Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for September 30, 2014. We have a great update this week packed full of new content and sales. PlayStation 4 users now have access to Chariot and the extremely well reviewed Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor.

PlayStation 3 users now have access to Persona 4 Arena UltimaxShort Peace Ranko Movie and Falling Skies: The Game. Users of all 3 systems can now play the extremely difficult strategy RPG Natural Doctrine. 

Finally, as you are probably aware PlayStation Plus users now receive all of their free games at the beginning of the month and then receive extra discounts as the month progresses. Discounts this week include titles from Konami including the Metal Gear franchise and the wonderful PS1 RPG Suikoden.

PlayStation TV Coming To North America In October, ‘Nearly 700’ Games Available At Launch

PlayStation TVThe wait is nearly over. The latest PlayStation console is finally coming to the United States, nearly a year after its launch in Japan. Yes, that’s right, PlayStation TV (previously the PS Vita TV in Japan) has a release date and will be launching in North America on October 14, and one month later to European territories on November 14.

Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for September 23, 2014. We have a great update this week packed full of new content and sales. PlayStation 4 users now have access to Flockers and Castlestorm: Definitive Edition.

PlayStation 3 users get several RPGs in Ar nosurge: Ode to An Unborn StarArcana Heart 3: Lovemax!!!, and Resonance of Fate. Users of all 3 systems can now play the newest edition of the hyper popular franchise, FIFA 15.

Sony to Shut Down PSN on PSP

PSP users in European and PAL regions regions are in for a dose of hard reality. The now 10-year-old portable from Sony will be losing access to the PlayStation Network come September 15th. According to Sony, PSP users will still be able to download titles from Sony Entertainment Network Online Store as well as redownload past purchases from the PSP download list. Welcome to the PlayStation Store update for September 9, 2014. We have a great update this week packed full of new content and sales. PlayStation 4 users (along with PlayStation 3) can now enjoy Destiny which is one of the most anticipated titles this Fall. Hockey also returns to consoles in NHL 15 for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Beyond these two heavy hitters the update this week is pretty light. There is a fairly extensive sale for titles in the Grand Theft Auto saga as well as the Just Dance series.

Finally, as you are probably aware PlayStation Plus users now receive all of their free games at the beginning of the month and then receive extra discounts as the month progresses. Discounts this week include 6 dollars off of a pre-order for The Evil Within for both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Sony Shows Off PS4 and PS Vita Remote Play in New “Perfect Gaming Partners” Spot

Despite popular belief, the PS Vita enjoys an ever expanding library of games, most recently thanks to the indie community. This list is further enlarged if we take PSP and PSone games which can be downloaded for the Vita into account. With the PS4 garnering so much success, it’s easy to see why Sony has shifted its focus away from the PS Vita, but we can’t help but think there is so much potential in the powerful portable. For its part, Sony has always been vocal that they continue to see the PS Vita as a vibrant part of the PlayStation family. To that end, Sony has released a new ‘perfect gaming partners’ spot for the PS Vita that depicts the console’s close tie to the PS4 thanks to Remote Play.

PlayStation 4 users can now purchase Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (also available for PS3 and Vita) and the much anticipated Velocity 2X (also available for Vita).  

PlayStation 3 users now have access to Deathmatch Village and the Epic Adventures Bundle. There is a lot of love for the PlayStation Vita this week as users finally have access to Don’t Starve: Giant EditionJoe Danger, and the fantastic Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (See our Review Here).
