So a week or so ago we talked about how Big Willy had signed on for a 3rd Men in Black which would be filmed in 3D. Well now, the movie also has a release date set for May 25th, 2012. Now thats going to be a crazy time for movies as The Avengers hits May 4, Battleship comes May 25. Other movies planned for the following weeks are Star Trek 2, the “peter-parker-told-differently/” target=”_self”>Spider-Man reboot and Batman 3.

Now lets get nostalgic.

Sony Pictures Picks Up Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist

Nothing crazy here but it’s sometimes sad to see smaller, more beautiful films and cartoons go by, unheard of, because of their lack of mass appeal. With this, comes news that Sony Pictures Classic has picked up Sylvain Chomet’s The Illusionist which is a beautifully had drawn cartoon, taking us back to the old days of Disney hand drawn films.

Sony NEX-7 With 1080p Video?

So we brought you news of the upcoming Sony NEX-3 and NEX-5 cameras. Of course besides its beautiful design, what makes these cameras to amazing is its lens capability and the option to shoot up to 1080i. But what about us video whores who like 1080p? Well there might be an option for us too. Rumor has it that the NEX-7 will be able  to shoot 1080p at up to 60fps, or 720p at 120fps vs the  NEX-3 and NEX-5 shooting 720p/1080i video. All you  might need for your next vacation is just a NEX camera? Of course, the NEX3 and 5 will be out by mid June where the NEX-7 isnt expected till late this year.

Sony Fights Counterfeiters With New Technology

It’s always interesting to read about the none consumer side of large business and the products and technologies that they work on. Sony is no exception. Of course, many know Sony for their professional lineup of TV’s and Camera’s that the Studios use to film some of your favorite shows and movies but Sony also does work on other forms, like counterfeit technology for credit cards. Read about this new project of theirs.

Even Faster Memory Stick Pro Duos Are Coming

There is already two series in the Memory Stick Pro Duo family. First, is just the good old fashioned Memory Stick Pro Duo which is what I use in my Sony T300 and now W330 and previous units as well. It’s the slower of the family but for a point and shoot, more then enough. Then comes the higher end, Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo HX. Those are the faster of the series currently which are aimed at those who use DSLR like the Alpha series or for your HD Camcorder. You will also note that they have an orange dash on them as oppose to being all black so if you have both, you dont accidently grab the wrong one. Well, things are about to get faster and that dosent mean there will be a Memory Stick Pro-HG Duo HX-Type R. Nope, Sony is just pumping up the speeds to these units. The new will offer maximum capacity of 32GB and transfer rates of 30MB/s which will be faster then any SD card out there which only offer a max of 20MB/s. Expect these units to land in late Summer.

Now how would you like to hit the jump to ready about the press release?

New Bluetooth Laser Mouse For Japan

New News On Uncharted Movie

First, it should be no surprise that if an Uncharted movie were to get adopted (which it is), that Sony would be doing it, sense Sony owns the game. But now some details on this project. Sony originally had a goal of having this ready for a summer 2011 project but it seems like that is no longer the case and nothing more on that front. Now we found out that Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara, Conan) had been tapped to write a script based on this bestselling PS3 video game. Over all, there has been good news behind the upcoming Conan production and I have to say, I love Sahara. I think it has the perfect tone of humor and action which is exactly what the Uncharted series has brought to gamers. The director for this project is currently David O. Russell who is wrapping up work on The Fighter, the boxing movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale, which according to /Film, has been garnering some good buzz.

One of my wishes with this series is that Sony treats it with respect and does do a $40 million budget. Take a cue from Jerry Bruckheimer who has been over seeing the Prince of Persia movie. Make it a film that will appeal to all, not some cheesy adaptation. Plus, the premise of a charming action adventure movie is pure gold. Look no further then Indiana Jones and National Treasure. So I really do think Sony can create an entirely new and large franchise for themselves with this property. Only thing, Please have Nathan Fillion as Drake. For anybody who has seen Nathan in Firefly or his current work Castle, you will know that the man not only looks like him, but can deliver the lines like no other.

Sony TV’s To Gain Google Android Codename “Dragonpoint”

“dragonpoint/” target=”_self”>

The race to bring computing to the television has been an on going battle for sometime. It really started started in the early 2000’s with Windows XP Media Center. The idea being that you could connect your laptop/desktop to your television and view your photos, videos and music on it. Of course, besides a lackluster interface, the problem was that computers were much larger at that time. Sense then, Microsoft has continued to expand it’s Media Center offerings and computers like the HP Slim Line are much smaller now. Apple itself has given this a go. You can use Front Row on your Mac to again display similar content but that again didn’t gain much traction. Their response to the idea was the AppleTV that I own myself. Although I would say they are the closest to a winner, there is still a lot lacking. It’s not a DVR, we live in an App world thanks to Apple now and most of all, you need to change inputs ie. Stop what your doing, jump to another input and then select your photos etc etc. Of course Tivo has given it’s own shot at this as well. Again, I own a Tivo 3 series and love my unit, but the apps it gives you in my opinion or worthless. So a combination of a Tivo and an AppleTV? Might just be the winner.

According to the NYT, Google is getting ready to give this a go as well. Powering this idea will be none other then the Android platform. Although I’m not an Android user, what I like about this platform is that it can be installed on any device, from a picture frame to a fridge and this gives developers and manufactures a lot of space to innovate where software might have been clumsy and proprietary before. Of course the reason we post this is that Google is indeed of a partner and that parter looks to be Sony. Details are still scarce on this project so we have no way of knowing if this is a top box like the AppleTV or will this be incorporated as widgets in the upcoming Sony lineup of TV’s. But it is expected to be released or at least unveiled next month.

Knowing what I know from the Sony release schedule, I’m not leaning on their TV’s because the majority of their brand new TV’s were shown off at CES and already in stores with their now and beautiful Monolith Design. This only leaves their higher end LX900 series (here to replace the XBR8) that will have full 3D built into it. Now that is set to be released late June, early July. So although it fits the timeframe, I still don’t see it happening. Also, I must say, I don’t really care for my TV to have widgets in it. As cool as it is to get the weather and twitter feed on my TV, I don’t need it. My iPhone or iPad or even Sony Dash can already do it better and faster, so why force it onto my TV and make it more expensive? I know this has been the direction that many TV manufactures have been going with, but I think it’s just a useless avenue that outside of a demo, most users will never use.

Of course, when the guys over at Gizmodo contacted Google about this, the following came as no surprise:

You won’t be surprised to hear we don’t comment on rumor or speculation. Sorry.

New Sony Vaio P Acts As PS3 Keyboard

So we were teased about the new Vaio P and before, we had mentioned that Sony was looking to add Remote Play connectivity to it’s Vaio series as well. The first of this we saw was in recently yesterday announced Sony Vaio P which feature the Remote Play function. Now comes some news out of Japan that these units can act as a bluetooth keyboard for PS3 users. I’m not gonna lie, I don’t think this is what anybody envisioned as the Remote Play functionality and I don’t mean this in a good way. I’m sure more functionality will trickle out but this is one of those things where we wished Sony didn’t use it’s engineering cash to develop. This would be a much better function on their upcoming Experia series. Why? Well I have my iPhone on me all the time and so it’s convenient for me to use it on my AppleTV. But if my MacBook hooked up to it as well, I would never use it because I would need to have a bulky (granted the Vaio P is very small) computer next to me, just so I can type in some stuff…Come on Sony, either wow us with something useful or don’t bother and spend the cash elsewhere. We say it for you.

Sony Camcorders To Get Interchangeable Lenses

Now this is what I’m talking about. For too long, Sony has had so many different segments that didn’t talk to each other and didn’t complement each other, other then the fact that they both would probably use a Memory Stick. Meet the new Sony HD Camcorders that are to be released this Fall. What makes these guys unique is that they are equipped with the new APC-C sized sensors for sharper quality, as well as low light sensitivity and accuracy. Better yet, these units can sport the Exmor APC HD CMOS sensor and E Mount interchangeable lenses which also happens to be what the Sony Alphas currently use.

The reason I’m excited about this is a two parted. One, the quality on these new lenses and the new image sensor that Sony uses is superb. But from a business stand point, as a consumer, I would be more likely to stick within the Sony family if I know my Alpha lens benefits my Camcorder and vise versa. Bravo Sony.

Hit the jump as always for another shot and a video.

Domino's Blu Tuesday!

First off I’d like to apologize for the lack of Domino posts the past week or so; as you can see IllegalPrelude is rockin’ this site and updating all you Sony fans out there with amazing content and posts.  More from me coming very soon!

This week in blu-ray releases that catch my eye include a few old favorites: The Karate Kid Pt. 1 & 2, The Man in the Iron Mask and Robin Hood Men in Tights.  A new release I’m excited for is Daybreakers.  I missed this film in theaters but was happy to see a real vampire movie being made amidst the teen-romance Twilight movies.  The movie really appealed to me since it’s set in the near future where 95% of the world is Vampires and humans are harvested and farmed for blood.  Also looks like it’s a graphic-novel turned movie with intense SWAT team like action, I hope it’s good.

I plan to pick up The Karate Kid box set this week.  These movies are classics and I loved them even more because I was enrolled in Karate Classes as a kid; I made it to green belt, don’t mess with me.   Also, these films will always remind me of my kindergarden teacher because her uncle is Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) which was pretty awesome.  You can purchase the box set of The Karate Kid for under $30, retailers are also selling the films individually.  With being a big fan of pretty much everything Leonardo DiCaprio does, I’ll also purchase The Man in the Iron Mask to add to my collection.  “All for one. One for all!”

Note: From my purchase of Saving Private Ryan last week, I must say it sounds and looks fantastic on Blu-ray.  Pick it up if you haven’t done so already.

Android 2.1 Coming To The Sony Ericsson X10 Family

Remember those sexy Sony Ericsson X10 units and it’s little sister, the X10 mini? Well they currently are using the lackluster Android 1.6 but all of this is set to change in Q4 of this year when Sony Ericsson will release Android 2.1 for the entire X10 family. Keep in mind that for Sony, Q4 2010 starts in September.

Ultra Mobile Vaio = New Vaio P

Yesterday we had an article about a teaser from the Sony Japan site about a new Ultra Mobile Vaio that had the design of a paperclip. I have to point out that indeed I was wrong and it’s not a tri-fold design. But damn, when you do hold the new Vaio P from the side, it does look like a paperclip.

So what does this new Vaio P do that the old one didn’t? It seems like a lot actually. The features that stand out are the built in GPS, inbuilt 3G and an accelerometer and touchscreen sides on the LCD. This also seems to be the first new Vaio with the PS3 Remote Play feature we had talked about before. Look for this unit to hit store shelves in June with a $200 price drop, bringing it down to $799. Also new, lots of colors!

Hit the jump for full specs and gllery.

LittleBigPlanet 2 Debut Trailer

I have two recommendations: A. When you click on the video, change it to the HD setting. B. Close your web browser for the rest of the day because you will find nothing better on the web.

10 Million eBooks Download Via Sony eReaders

On May 5th, the 10 millionth eBook was downloaded off of the Reader Store. This of course is a very impressive number of downloads, one reason being, the open standard that Sony chose to use with it’s eReader (the ePub) but also the fact that they have an impressive amount of books on hand as well. Congratulations to Sony!
