Behind the Scenes Video of Media Molecule and Tearaway

Tearaway Screenshot

With all the hype around the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, one delightful and important game might be getting lost in the shuffle. Tearaway from Media Molecule, the studio that brought you LittleBigPlanet, has just landed on the PlayStation Vita. Having had a chance to play it at E3, I can absolutely confirm that the game is an absolute delight and all the outstanding reviews it’s been receiving are well justified. Right off the bat, it’s quite clear that, with games like Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet, Media Molecule is a different type of game company. The video after the jump is designed to give you a quick glimpse at how this first party studio functions and what makes them unique.

PS4 Hard Drive Upgrade Guide

The PlayStation 4 ships with a 500GB hard drive which isn’t too bad for the average gamer. However, if you consider yourself a hardcore gamer who plans on purchasing a lot of content and/or are looking to go exclusive with digital downloads, then a 500GB might start to seem smaller. This is especially true when you consider that many AAA PS4 games will near 50GB. Luckily, Sony has once again made upgrading the PS4 hard drive a none issue like the PS3. While maybe not as easy as the PS3, upgrading the hard drive on the PS4 is not an especially hard affair or time consuming. If you’re looking for a more visual guide, our video above takes out the standard PS4 hard drive and upgrades it to a WD Blue 1TB drive while those looking for written steps can find them, after the jump.

PS4: Dualshock 4 vs. Dualshock 3 vs. Sixaxis

Because why not, I decided to size up the Dualshock 4 controller for the PS4 against the Dulashock 3 which replaced the original PS3 launch controller, the Sixaxis. As a recap, the PS3 originally came with the Sixaxis controller which lacked the rumble pack thanks to a dispute between Sony and Emersson, the company who held patents for the technology. Sony would eventually settle the suit for $90 million and bring back rumble to the PS3 and call the controller the Dualshock 3. With a new generation of PlayStation, we also have a new generation of controllers, the Dualshock 4. Our video compares the three controllers.

PlayStation App Overview (video)

One of the great things about the PlayStation 4 is the ability to interact with the device and services on it via the PlayStation App. Available on the App Store and Google Play, the free app allows iOS and Android devices to connect to it with a host of features like chatting and game purchases. Our video above gives you a tour of the app and helps you navigate some of its features.

PS4 Dualshock 4 Controller Unboxing (video)

With the PlayStation 4 set to launch later tonight or early tomorrow, depending on how you look at it, it seemed like a good time to unbox the all new Dualshock 4 controller. Those familiar with PlayStation controllers will note the similarities between it and previous generations. While most of the layout is in line with the Dualshock 3, Sony has changed a few things around and left behind a few buttons like the Start and Select.

Heavenly Sword Theatrical Trailer

Heavenly Sword

Despite being released over 7 years ago as a launch title for the PS3, Heavenly Sword continues to be one of my favorite games of this generation. Not only did the game boast some fantastic gameplay, but the quality of visuals, sound, and voice acting still rivals and outweighs some 2013 titles. While we’ve never received a sequel to this game, Sony is following up the tale with an animated film that will be released digitally worldwide, as well as theatrically in select global markets, in the Spring of 2014. After the jump, we have the first Heavenly Sword theatrical trailer.

PlayStation 4 and Accessories Overview (video)

With the PlayStation 4 less than a month away, I found it fitting to post a video tour of the console and its accessories from E3. The footage which I recently found on my SD card from E3 2013 goes to show you the PlayStation 4 and accessories like the Dulshock 4, PlayStation Camera, and the included mic.

PlayStation Vita Accessory Unboxing (video)

Thanks to the PlayStation 4 which is set to launch in a months time and a new $199 price tag for the PlayStation Vita, gamers are once again looking at the powerful portable. While the new price will help get the Vita into more hands come this holiday, the real driving force behind the Vita will be the new wave of indie support the consoles received. That, mixed with the ability of the PS4 to stream its game to the Vita means that now, more then ever might be the best time to pickup one up.

While none of the accessories we’re unboxing in todays video is new, I though it a fit time to show them off again for those who may just have purchased a Vita or are interested in one. After the jump, a video unboxing/overview of some PS Vita accessories like the docking station.

Shuhei Yoshida Reveals PS4 Dashboard (video)

Gamescom 2013 PS4 Dashboard

Despite having the initial PlayStation 4 announcement in late Spring with a full showing of the console and its games at E3, the PS4 dashboard has continued to be a bit of mystery. While we’ve seen little pieces of it from concept art and short videos, we’ve never been able to get a full glimpse of it, working in real time. Now, thanks to Sony’s Shushei Yoshida from Gamescom 2013, we have a much better idea of how the entire PS4 dashboard will work and the first thing you’ll notice is speed. Yoshida is seen navigating throughout the dashboard, then bringing up a live stream of Killzone: Shadow Fall, and eventually joining the same game with just a few clicks in as smooth of a fashion as you can expect. While there is still a lot we don’t know about the PS4 dashboard, this video is the best example of what we can expect in the end from the PS4 and it’s damn good. The video awaits you, after the jump.
