Sony & Qriocity Users Recieve Compensation For Outage

April 21, 2011 was the start of the massive PlayStation and Qriocity service outages, one day later its announced the outage was due to an External Intrusion widely speculated as being the product of the infamous hactavist group Anonymous. As days went by users took to social media sites to speak their frustration – lately its been all the more common to see speculation of compensation for the PlayStation and Qriocity users effected by the outage.

I’ve seen some pretty… I hate to say it but dumbass ideas such as 1 free game download, or at least $40 PSN store credit…most of those dumbasses are comparing this outage to the 2008 and Xbox LIVE outage in which users were compensated for their lost time… Lets stop right here and take a moment to shut up these fools – Xbox LIVE is a pay to play service which those users are paying monthly to play – are you paying monthly for the PlayStation Network or is it free? (Those users with PlayStation Plus and/or Qriocity service please disregard this)

With that being Sony announced in their latest blog update that their users WILL be compensated for the recent outage and their Patience, so thank you to all those who hadn’t went on a criticizing commenting online rampage you are the reason for this.

Hit the jump for the full offering of the “Welcome Back” package.

Complimentary Offering and Welcome Back Appreciation Program
While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in each region.

The company will also rollout the PlayStation Network and Qriocity Welcome Back program, to be offered worldwide, which will be tailored to specific markets to provide our consumers with a selection of service options and premium content as an expression of the company’s appreciation for their patience, support and continued loyalty.

Central components of the Welcome Back program will include:

  • Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
  • All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
  • Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Additional Welcome Back entertainment and service offerings will be rolled out over the coming weeks as the company returns the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services to the quality standard users have grown to enjoy and strive to exceed those exceptions.

As well for the 10 million of you that had your credit card information compromised thankfully Sony and the security teams they have been working with have implemented some new security measures as well as creating a new position for the safety of users sensitive information.

The new security measures implemented include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
  • Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
  • Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
  • Implementation of additional firewalls

Likely we’ll see the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services up soon – when they are up there will be a software update for everyone that will require them to change their passwords (Just so ya know.)
