Sony Ericsson Announces ‘Live with Walkman’ Android Smartphone, Targets Music Lovers. We Have Specs

If you’ve been craving an iPod-Touch-like smartphone that runs on Android, instead of Apple’s iOS, then today’s announcement should give you something to look forward to. Sony Ericsson has announced a new Walkman phone, named “Live with Walkman.” Powered by Android 2.3, this 1GHz processor smartphone is aimed at music lovers by enabling features like a dedicated Walkman button that will automatically launch the new Walkman music interface (which is capable of taking music from your PC iTunes library). Continuing that theme, users will also find a handful of unique Facebook integrations, like sharing your current song to Facebook, and discovering new music. Qriocity, Sony’s music streaming service will also play a central role, giving owners the capability to streaming music. After the jump, you can find additional specs, including more details on Facebook integration, photos and an official press release.

Sony has taken Facebook integration a step further. Besides the ability to share your current song on Facebook, users can also share their picture gallery, phonebook and calendar directly from the phone, without the need for a separate app.  Sony is also introducing their xLOUD technology which “enhances audio output of the inbuilt speakers at high levels.” Another nifty built-in functionality, which is very similar to the popular Shazam app, is TrackID, an app that “identifies the music track you are listening to within the FM radio and music player. The track can then instantly be shared or downloaded.

For all you specs fans, Sony has included a bevy of likable features—though keep in mind that this is not meant to be a high end, flagship phone. Noteworthy specs include:

  • Android Gingerbread 2.3
  •  1GHz processor
  • 3.2 inch, capacitive touchscreen
  • Five megapixel AF shooter with 8x digital zoom
  • Front-facing VGA camera capable of capturing HD video in 720p.
  • 320MB of RAM
  • Up to 32GB of microSD storage
  • Tri-band 3G support (HSPA+) at 850, 1900 and 2100MHZ, or dual-band 3G at 900 and 2100MHz (depends on your region)
Sony Ericsson will be launching the Live with Walkman in Q4 of 2011 in select markets.
