Sony Tablet S and Tablet P to Receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in Late April

It was promised that during Q2 of this year, both Sony tablets would be receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and the fine and dandy folks at Sony have kept their word. Sometime in late April, the Sony Tablet S and Sony Tablet P will be gaining Android 4.0.3 ICS which is expected to  bring a host of features associated with the new OS like:

  • Home screen folders and favorites tray
  • Resizable widgets
  • New lock screen actions
  • Quick responses for incoming calls
  • Swipe to dismiss notifications, tasks, and browser tabs
  • Improved text input and spell-checking
  • Unified calendar, visual voicemail

There was sadly no bigger picture than this

Besides the above features which are part of Android 4.0.3, Sony will also be adding new photo capabilities like panoramic pictures, and  a “new “Recopla” app for viewing DVR’d TV programs from its Blu-ray recorders.” Another feature that Sony will be bringing is  “Small Apps” which allows users to more efficiently multitask by pulling up a windowed web browser which has some basic apps like calculator and remote control.

The update which is expected to land in late April is so far Japan only but we can’t imagine it being far off for western territories like Europe and the United States.
