Sony to Cut 10,000 Jobs, 6% of Workforce

The Nikkei, Japans version of the Wall Street Journal is reporting that come April 12th, the Sony is expected to make some big announcements in regards of the companies future and direction will be the cut of 10,000 jobs. This 6% reduction in work force will only be part of the plan as new CEO, Kaz Hirai will also be asking the top seven Sony execs, including former CEO, Sir Howard Stringer to forgo any bonuses that would have otherwise been awarded to them. Of course, for a company that’s been losing money for the past sever years, it’s hard to see why anyone would be awarded a bonus.

While details remain sketchy at best and ultimately nothing could come from this, if reports due pan out, a majority of the cuts are to come from Sony’s ailing LCD business and their lesser known, chemical business. With Sony having recently sold of their S-LCD business to Samsung, it should come off as a surprise that there might be a large work force on the Sony payroll with not a lot to do. With Sony’s April 12th announcement right around the corner, expect plenty more news to come on this subject matter.
